It was an amazing show, both were in rare form. Lucy was rocking and Richard was obviously in a great mood and sounded amazing. And am I allowed to say...well hey Lucy said it first!...that he looked amazing!!! He looked rested and happy and well...just awesome! It was in a GORGEOUS theater that is being renovated to it's original state and it was absolutely beautiful and the sound was fantastic! It was completely sold out (~1000 seats) and the audience was so obviously into both artists. It was great so see Benay, Donna, and others and to finally meet Donald from Scottland (hmmm I guess he wins now for traveling the farthest to see a show :)) Lucy had Duke Levine with her and did... No Place To Fall (Townes Van Zandt) Written on the Back of His Hand Guilty as Sin Love Song New York The Red Thread I Had Something (with Richard) Ten Year Night (with Richard) Brooklyn Train Line In The Sand I'm Lookin Through You (she totally rocked out on this one!) This Is Home Land of the Living By Way of Sorrow (with Richard) after a short intermission Richard came out (still looking damn good may I add ;)) and did There Goes Mavis (I just love the beat on this one) Che Guevara T-shirt Cancion Sencilla (complete with a nice translation and a similar chat like the other night about how mushy it is...i still love it...makes a lot of us girls swoon to hear him sing in spanish :)) Fenario (which is definitely growing on me) Waist Deep in the Big Muddy (i am SOOO glad he is recording this) Hazel's House (different for a Richard song...i'll have to hear it again to think about it more) Mary Magdalene (with Lucy) Are You Happy Now (with Lucy) Last Fare of the Day (with Lucy...oh my god...it sounded amazing with the two of them doing this together...i had chills through most of the song) Transit Encores (done together) The Kid (Lucy on lead) Saint Dolores (Richard on lead) All in all a fantastic show! We chatted a bit with both (and i managed to trip Richard going up the aisle, I swear i wasn't trying to kill him!). Gave Lucy her Half the Sky certificates (which i scanned and they will be online this week for everyone to see the adorable kids we sponsored in her name) which of course made her cry. She was very excited and didn't believe that she got to keep the pictures and everything and also about how she would get to show Molly them some day when she gets older and can understand. An uneventful drive home and a good night sleep...can't wait for my next show!! - -Kristen _________________________________________________________________ Find a broadband plan that fits. I would have given my right arm to be there, but it just wasn't in the cards...... Lucy is supposed to coming to my local venue sometime later this year, but I haven't heard a date yet. And Richard almost always hits the Philly area once or twice when he tours. Can't wait!! Anyway, if some kind soul has a tape of last night they would like to share, please email me off-list. I'm sure I could grovel sufficiently if you do! I am also in the process of burning the last few cds that I owe people so you should all have yours this week. There's been a few track changes due to technical difficulties (if anyone knows how to make a soundblaster external mp3 soundcard work through linux let me know please!) but i've replaced them with some other great tracks. Later tonight the scans of the certificates and child sponsorships will be online as well. Go to the picture gallery and click on the Half the Sky link and they'll be there with the pictures of the presentation. - -Kristen _________________________________________________________________ Find a broadband plan that fits. Everything came together in a most gorgeous way...there wasn't a single flaw except perhaps the fact that there was only one TINY women's restroom for a 1000-seat theater, creating IMMENSE lines and much exasperation all the way up the stairs at intermission! But in any case, Lucy and Richard were great. Small moments: Lucy mentioned after the first couple of songs that she had opened for Townes Van Zandt once at the Bottom Line and he had kissed her hand and asked her to marry him. At least I THINK this was the gist of the story---I didn't actually HEAR it, given that at that moment, Elaine and I were engaged in a whispered argument with a person from the venue over which seats we were supposed to be in! These things always happen at the worst times... For anybody keeping track of Molly's repertoire of animal sounds as reported by Lucy...Molly can now make the sound of a cow as well as a cat (along with the rooster Lucy's mentioned before). The cow and the cat apparently sound alike thus far, though---"Muuuuhh!" according to Lucy's cute imitation. Lucy forgot the first line to Love Song/New York and tried and tried to think of it but wasn't managing...I, who would have bet money until that moment that I knew the song cold, suddenly developed total amnesia and so could not have been any help even if I had been closer to the stage than seven rows back! Liz was the heroine of the evening---she had the Red Thread liner notes and walked up in front of the stage, found the proper page, and fed Lucy the first line, whereupon Lucy announced, "She's from SCOTLAND! I KNOW her! Thank you!" and proceeded to go on with the song and do a lovely job. When Lucy first came out to sing with Richard on his set, he teased, "That jacket---I think I saw Annie Lennox in it!" A somewhat flustered Lucy, who had not actually TOLD the jacket story during her set ("You're awful!" she laughingly told Richard, and marveled aloud that after all they'd been through together, they were still friends!), had to quickly explain how Annie Lennox had bought the same jacket at the same store before she had... No Place to Fall and I'm Looking Through You were the standouts of Lucy's set in my estimation, albeit perhaps only because I hadn't heard them in a while. But the great sound (and perfect lighting too, I might add) made everything lovely. The encores were just knock-'em-dead gorgeous, and I could've done with a few more...I missed Lucy and Richard's version of Love Hurts, Sin City, and Asbury Park, Fourth of July...but I wouldn't have given up the ones they did do, and one can't have everything. Here's hoping Richard gets back to the U.S. again soon so he and Lucy can sing together some more before too long! Safe travels to Donald and Liz, with hopes that they get back to this side of the ocean again before too long! Lucy lost the lyrics to Love Song/NY and couldnt get em..I was waiting for Benay to shout them out from the middle of the theater.. Lucy kept asking for a copy of the RED Thread... I then Spied the HERO..Liz approach the stage with her lyrics in hand and read them to Lucy ...Lucy acknowledge her coming from SCotland and her accent..which is stunning.. SO cheers TO THE HERO... Liz anderson... Lucy was in great voice..Duke used two guitars and the mandolin on By way of sorrow.. It was so nice to hear THE KID and By Way of sorrow.. it reminded me of crycrycry.. i still hear that third voice in my head..(the third voice is off having her own baby) Lucy reported MOlly was with rick in the hotel..Drats I missed her again. I do hope she got the Stuffies..every kid needs stuffies.. Lucy needs to sing on Last Fare of the Day..it makes up the gap in the song.. and richard on Ten year night was heaven for her.. She used the piano for Brooklyn Train and her covers..of townes van zandt, bill Morrisey, buddy mondlock, Julie Miller and There was one more cover..they were stategically placed and broke up the mostly red thread set list.. Lucy sang backup on Richard's lead of Mary Magelene. She became the angry MM as the song progressed.. that was a highlight for me.. Richards new music is stunning... but til then preorder the patty griffin cd for 10.00 from her website its the second best cd ive heard this year so far.. the third will be the Mary Chapin Carpenter cd that is in the stores on 4/27 Patty is touring with Emmylou, buddy miller and Gillian Welch and david rawlings this fall..... Lucy is confirmed for falcon ridge but richard is not..YET... sorry i couldnt stay for the presentation to Lucy, i know she is grateful and it means alot to her and rick to get such support. Its a worthy cause and there are many children in orphanges around the world and foster homes in this country would could benefit from a set of parents and being adopted.. sharonG - -- "up above me wayward angels a blur of wings and grace...
