So, sorry for any redundancy to any of you on those lists. For those in the L.A. area, Cliff Eberhardt is coming to town in mid-April. The last time he was here, the turn out was pathetic and it was mostly because nobody knew about his shows. I found the whole thing to be quite upsetting and can't stand the thought of this happening again. He is doing 3 house concerts. He is an awesome talent right up there with John and Lucy and Cheryl Wheeler. He is also a friend to them all. In fact, Lucy recorded one of his songs, "Goodnight" which she does so beautifully. If you are anywhere near, do yourself a favor and attend one of the shows. Details can be found on the website. And no, I am not his agent. I second Gina's opinion on his talent. I attended Cliff's New Year's Eve show in New York and he is not only very talented but a real nice guy. She played there once before and seemed to like the venue. We also had a few families who were in China with Lucy & Rick and the folks from Half the Sky (http://www.halfthesky.org) were sitting right behind us. This was the weirdest Lucy show I've ever seen. Lucy was great but there was a man who talked throughout the show making everyone in the audience crazy and even disturbing and disrupting Lucy's performance. A friend who's a doctor said he didn't know if the man was "retarded or drunk or both." It seemed like he was more than drunk because he never stopped commenting or making noise despite the SSHHH's and even Lucy telling him to be quiet. He really may have had some kind of mental disability. Also, when she was taking requests at the end of the show, a woman yelled about "where are all the political songs" and that threw Lucy off as well. She said she sang one (meaning Line in the Sand). That seemed to throw her too. I mean it's not like you come to a Lucy show expecting a political rally. During "Song About Pi" he got so loud after the opening few verse that she had to start over because she started the second verse in the wrong key. He talked. He made noises. He was surrounded by people who seemed to make no attempt to shut him up. It made it very difficult to stay present and listen to the music and you could tell that Lucy could hear everything as well. We got the usual stories and Lucy was amazed that the Science Museum had a special Pi Event at 1:59 (yesterday was 3-14 so 3-14159 was Pi) When she thought it was a PIE Festival that made more sense to her and she thought people needed to get a life. The jacket is beautiful but it was hot so she took it off (thus giving her the opportunity to show us her muscles which are much more developed then when she was here last). We got the diaper-changing song and Molly stories. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Set list in no particular order: Written on the Back of His Hand The Tide Scorpion Ten Year Night If You Could See (piano) - the request of the drunk guy who talked all the way through it Guinevere Return of the Grievous Angel (about going home and how she's now home because of Molly) Turn the Lights Back On - she said she needed an angry song - I gave thumbs up and she smiled at me - I think we were both channeling our anger at the rude intruder and I was really surprised her guitar strings didn't break - she was strumming the hardest I've ever seen Land of the Living A Song About Pi I Had Something Line In The Sand Love Song/New York This Is Home The Red Thread Brooklyn Train (piano) Don't Mind Me - the first time the drunk guy addressed Lucy directly - slurring - Lucy Lucy - that's my favorite song of yours I'm Looking Through You - talked about exposing Molly to only good music and listening to Rubber Soul in the car and how dark that record is (strummed a couple of lines from Run For Your Life - "Well I'd rather see you dead, little girl Than to be with another man" 1st encore: Cowboy Singer 2nd encore: Speaking with the Angel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So we got almost the whole new record. I felt sorry for Lucy - she was happy when she came out, in good voice, happy to have spent the day with her parents and Molly and Rick. Happy to have experience here first In & Out Burger on the drive up from LA (she approves). She did great under very difficult circumstances. She did one long set. While I was glad because it was Sunday and a break would have made the night much longer, I wished she'd taken a break so we could have dealt with the disruptive guy. So a weird night. I wound up not staying to chat - she was selling cds and we had a long Muni & Bart ride home. susan in alameda ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V6 #57 ****************************** This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
