It evaded me that night---I lost it, and I gave up. Then, late LAST night, as I was about to climb in bed, the thing was back with a vengeance, bouncing off not just the light, but everything else too. And it was truly huge for a fly, the kind of fly that can sound like a small jet engine in an otherwise silent room. After a few minutes of attempting quiet endurance, I began to watch the creature in earnest. Sudden silence as it landed somewhere in the hall. I heaved a sigh, groped blindly on the table for the closest piece of printed matter that I could roll up as an impromptu fly swatter, and went on the attack. What ensued was a chase featuring athletic moves that would have dazzled sportswriters worldwide had there been any in attendance---most of those moves, unfortunately, were performed by the fly, but a few were mine too. Finally, at long last...WHACK! Victory. Then I looked down at my hand and realized that the weapon with which I had slain the beast was...the current issue of Performing Songwriter, which I had bought because it contained a story about Lucy. I thought: Yeah. OK. Apropos. Then I thought: Oh, come ON. For heaven's sake, if the universe had to bestow upon me a recurring thematic element relating Lucy's music to my daily life experience, did it really HAVE to be Lucy and me and...bugs? Couldn't I have landed something with more cachet, like, say, Lucy and me and...diamonds? Or at least something generally appealing, like Lucy and me and...ice cream? And then, gazing at the now somewhat battle-scarred magazine in my hand (in which the Lucy article, thankfully, remained pristine---it's a good little article, by the way), I thought: Well, at least now I've got some material proof for the non-music people in my life that my enjoyment of music in general, and Lucy's music in particular, is directly and specifically USEFUL! I though I had a real coup with a grande Lucy production in Minneapolis on Saturday, April 3rd. Now I just saw that Lucy is playing a THREE NIGHT STAND at Joe's Pub in New York City later that month, on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd. Whew! Believe me, I have thought about it! (I've done it before for her two show Emelin stand). I got airline miles and vacation time to die for.... But three things are sorta inhibiting me this time....a) I'm seeing Lucy just a couple weeks prior; b) I will be visiting NYC in July anyway as part of the annual FRFF junket; and c) I am commencing my own music series on that Wednesday night, the 20th (my tenth year hosting). The Red Thread was recorded "live" by Lucy and a cadre of New York City's finest studio musicians. I sense a series of band shows coming here. Any body out there get the same vibe? It was meant to be "Earth Day", which is April 22nd. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-lucy-list-digest@smoe.org [mailto:owner-lucy-list-digest@smoe.org] Sent: Sunday, February 08, 2004 2:15 AM To: lucy-list-digest@smoe.org Subject: lucy-list-digest V6 #30 lucy-list-digest Sunday, February 8 2004 Volume 06 : Number 030 In this issue: [lucy-list] Lucy on the radio Sat 2/14 Maybe [lucy-list] The Lucy Birthday/Adoption/Cd-Release present - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 7 Feb 2004 12:56:53 -0600 From: "Larry Kunz" Subject: [lucy-list] Lucy on the radio Sat 2/14 Maybe About an hour ago, the announcer on WNKU (the Northern KY Univ NPR station) announced that he hopes to have Lucy on the air Sat 2/14 about noon EST. She has a concert date in Columbus,OH Friday night and one in greater Cincinnati (Newport) on Saturday night. He indicated that Lucy, Rick and Mollie would be travelling together. Columbus & Cincinnati are only about 90 miles apart so there shouldn't be a problem being at the station by noon - - - Molly and the weather permitting! The DJ then played Line in the Sand from TRT. So add next Sat to your list (including WFUV tomorrow morning between 7-10am CST) for interviews with Lucy and live & cuts from songs on TRT. WNKU streams on www.wnku.org Larry (ps. the computer may have sent this email prematurely while I was looking up nku's address. If so, sorry for the double!) - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Feb 2004 17:49:28 -0500 From: "Kristen Myshrall" Subject: [lucy-list] The Lucy Birthday/Adoption/Cd-Release present Hey everyone, Just wanted to send an update and reminder about the Lucy Birthday/Adoption/Cd-Release present-- in the form of a donation to Half-the-Sky.
