According to their reviewer, Todd Spencer, "The Red Thread is Kaplansky's best, most fully realized yet--even when it rocks & rolls, it's as warm and tasty as cinnamon tea, as hopeful as daybreak." Hey, I'm not against world peace (heck, who that's sane is?). The problem that I have with the song is that it's kind of preachy. I think that she does better when she shows, not tells. Look at Land of the Living, or Brooklyn Train. They're much better songs, in my opinion. Those of us who go to her shows know that she does some songs from past albums much less often, if at all, than others. My prediction is that as time goes on, she'll be much less enamored with Line in the Sand than with other songs, and that it will fade from her rotation. Nothing wrong with that. First of all, Benay, if there's a song that Lucy does, or ever has done in concert, as our resident Lucy SuperFan, I'm certain you would be aware of it. :-) Perhaps it's just that Lucy and Rick aren't very prolific writers. I wonder if part of that is because Lucy's always touring, and doesn't get enough time home to rest, refresh, and create? Perhaps now that she's a mom, that will work itself out?
