There haven't been any Lucy concert recaps for awhile, so thought I'd let you know about tonight's show at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland. Lucy came out wearing a cool, expensive leather jacket (from Earl Jean, as I later found out), an Earl Jean white top (the name written on the front) and dark jeans. Here is her set list, along with a few comments along the way: He Thinks I Still Care Written on the Back of His Hand She then said she wanted to play one she hadn't done for awhile and played: The Eyes of My Beholder Guilty as Sin I Had Something Ten Year Night Lucy then told her jacket story. The Red Thread Don't Mind Me Brooklyn Train At this point, Lucy asked for requests. I finally got up the nerve to shout out "Happy Birthday" per Sharon's request, while another guy a few rows back did the same simultaneously. Weird! She then played: Just You Tonight (by request) and took a break. After the intermission, she played: Cowboy Singer Scorpion Line in the Sand I'm Looking Through You She then said that they played "Rubber Soul" on the trip from New York to Ohio, only wanting to expose Molly to good music, no Barney, but maybe Raffi at some point. Lucy said she didn't remember how dark some of "Rubber Soul" was and played the opening line from Run for Your Life: "I'd rather see you dead little girl, then to be with another man." She then talked about changing Molly's diaper for the first time and sang what has become their diaper changing song: You're a Little Piece of Chicken This Is Home Land of the Living Song About Pi (by request) By Way of Sorrow End of the Day (interrupted briefly by a broken D string) After the song, she asked for requests while she put on a new string. Someone shouted out, "Who are you voting for?" She replied, "Anyone but the guy in office now." Lucy then played: Guinevere (by request) For the encore, she played: Broken Things All in all, a very good show! Lucy announced that she would stay after the show to sign anything (except animals), which she did. From what I saw though, the only things being signed were CDs. She was very friendly with everyone and told my wife where she bought her jacket. Yes, I got her to autograph her new album for us too. I wasn't sure we would get any reviews this weekend, and it's nice to see one, complete with set list! Wow...The Eyes of My Beholder...don't think I've heard that one live since Lucy played Fez here in NYC several years ago. This comes to mind so fast only because I was at Fez tonight, seeing Robbie Schaefer of Eddie from Ohio (lots of fun), and I flash back briefly to that long-ago Lucy show whenever I find myself there---that was the Lucy show where I first discovered how to hear the hidden track on Flesh & Bone, so I remember it with particular clarity. (For those new to the list who may not know the answer---and there's probably always somebody---the hidden track is I've Just Seen a Face and it's BEFORE Track 1, so you have to find a CD player that will go backward from the beginning.) Anyway, sounds like it was a great show tonight in Cleveland...and I'm glad you managed to shout happy birthday, Ken! As I write this, it's now OFFICIALLY Lucy's birthday, though saying it now (just after midnight) feels a little like cheating. Still, happy birthday to Lucy...and it's a palindrome birthday, too (44)! I love palindromes...and her dad will probably think about the palindrome part even if she doesn't....
