It's not available on their web site (http://www.performingsongwriter.com) Lucy talks some about how her touring schedule will change - more weekend dates so she can be home with Molly during the week. Nice article and the magazine is great - celebrating its 10th anniversary. susan in alameda (off to see Lou & Peter Berryman tonight) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jan 2004 21:03:13 -0500 From: "paulharrison" Subject: [lucy-list] My ears were burning... Greetings! I'm a new member of the list, prompted to join after contact with Benay regarding my song, "Will You Be My Lucy Kaplansky?" Thanks so much for those of you who commented kindly about the song after hearing the clip on CD-Baby. It has gone over well at gigs and such, especially with true folkies who get all the references. Lucy and Ric heard it and she said "laughed hysterically." As I told Benay, my dream is to one day open for her and play it or better yet, to hear her sing the female part...wouldn't it be a hoot to hear her sing "Who the hell is Lucy Kaplansky?" Hee hee...I'd love to see that! Anyway, I am indeed a fan and got to interview her for Baltimore Songwriters Association. There's a small pic of her on my CD insert, taken at that interview. She's great and was very tolerant of the interview, in spite of it being after the show when she had to drive from Annapolis to NYC. I'll share another story about Lucy and the song some other time. I don't want to overwhelm y'all with my first posting. I've got his CD (Shanksville and Other Stories) now and am really enjoying it...ESPECIALLY this song! Paul had given me permission to post the lyrics here, and I've been meaning to do so for a couple of days but haven't been online much because my parents are visiting. I'm posting the lyrics because I think it would be a shame NOT to have them appear in the place where they will surely be most appreciated...but I will add that it is MUCH better to actually hear the whole song on the CD ("Who the hell is Lucy Kaplansky?" is the best line...hearing it still completely cracks me up even after multiple listenings), and those of you with the ability and desire to do so are highly encouraged to buy it! Anyway, the song is in two voices, and I think it's fairly obvious which is which---Paul sings it on the CD with Kathryn Brower as the potential "Lucy." Welcome to the list, Paul! Benay - -------- Will You Be My Lucy Kaplansky? by Paul Harrison I've played this old guitar for 30 years I write songs with joy and some with tears Sing them all the best I can Still I long for a helping hand A voice that's strong, sweet, and sincere. Would you be my Lucy Kaplansky? Make my lyrics soar with harmony When I heard your lovely voice It left me an easy choice So would you be my Lucy Kaplansky? Who the hell is Lucy Kaplansky? And what's this talk of singing harmony? You know I write my own damn songs The critics say they're fresh and strong So I don't like this role you're giving me. Lucy sings with lots of famous folkies Gorka and Shindell and even more They gave her a better chance Her own career really did advance So would you be my Lucy Kaplansky? Listen, boy, you're no John Gorka You have no CDs to your name But I think your songs are slick So we're talking partnership I will be your Lucy what's-her-name. Now I've got my Lucy Kaplansky So I won't have to cry, cry, cry Side by side we'll hit the stage Our shows will be the latest rage Me and my Lucy Kaplansky Me and my Lucy Kaplansky ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Feb 2004 00:26:16 -0500 From: "Doug Fuller" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] more about Paul's song - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Benay Bubar" > > Will You Be My Lucy Kaplansky? > by Paul Harrison OutSTANDING lyrics!
