No sooner than I post the question to the Darlist (Dar Williams) about the name of Mindy Smith's CD in response to a post from the SharonG I'm not married to, an interview with her aired on NPR's Morning Edition today. The CD title is "One Moment More". IMHO, it's the second good CD to come out this year (first: Jonatha Brooke's "Back in the Circus"). Plus, it rates as my best new artist of the year (2003--Kathleen Edwards; 2002--Tift Merritt). Like the SharonG I'm not married to (whom I have to thank for making me aware of this lady via the Darlist) (NB: my wife's first name is also Sharon, but obviously her last name is Gilmore, not Goldberg as is the case with the SharonG who posts frequently to this list and the Darlist), I, too, thought there was a resemblance to Kathleen Edwards or even Tift Merritt in her style. I also caught a touch of Julie Miller in her voice. Just my $.02. Here's the summary from NPR's website: Mindy Smith Live at NPR In Nashville, where new musical talent arrives at the bus station every day, singer-songwriter Mindy Smith is known as one of the city's most promising young artists. NPR's Bob Edwards talks with Smith about her new CD, her mentor Dolly Parton, and the inspirations behind her spare, emotional material. Hear an extended interview, plus four tracks performed live in Studio 4A. and the URL for the program to get the audio link to the NPR interview with Mindy Smith: http://www.npr.org/rundowns/segment.php?wfId23076 Steve Gilmore Charlotte, NC USA home of the PANTHERS!!!! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? What a voice. I also found a resemblance to Patty Griffin, circa "Living with Ghosts." I intend to buy the CD this weekend. And I thank you (though my wallet does not) for reminding me about Jonatha's release. O how I love thee, Sir Robert Edwards. - --beth, npr junkie > Is this great timing or what?
