Hey guys, As I am writing John Platt on FUV just completed playing "Love Song NY" on his Sunday Morning radio show. This is the song Jonatha Brooke is sings background. Sounds great and good to hear Lucy on the radio. John just mentioned that Lucy will be in the studio with him on Sunday Feb 8. For those of you not in the New York, NJ area, you can pick up 90.7, WFUV on line at wfuv.org. Take care, Michael ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Jan 2004 11:07:53 -0500 From: Benay Bubar Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Lucy Interview On Sunday, January 25, 2004, at 06:09 AM, Donald Anderson wrote: > Susan - Great link - thanks for posting it - Can't wait to hear the > album > > Those of you who have already heard it , and yes Benay ... And somebody, somebody, PLEASE record John Platt's interview with Lucy next weekend! Of all the days it could be...I will be taking my parents to catch a train after a 10-day visit that morning JUST at the time when I'll have to miss the broadcast, and I will really NEED to hear a Lucy interview after that (10 days plus three extremely different people plus one smallish apartment equals a high level of insanity)! As for reviewing the new album here, I never really considered it. First, because it seems somewhat unfair to discuss it too specifically here before everybody can get it...and it IS available in the U.S. right now at least when ordered through Red House, but I'm not certain you can get it easily in the U.K. yet and I'm sure to some it won't seem "available" until it can be gotten in more mainstream stores. But a larger issue for me is that, while I have no hesitation in writing about live Lucy SHOWS I've seen, I don't think I'd necessarily do a good job with an album review, even in a very informal place such as this. I can't comment intelligently on production quality and other such issues, and I'm not very good about talking about specific songs as entities in themselves. Come to think of it, in all I've written here over the years, I don't think I've ever gone off into a detailed commentary on a single Lucy song---i.e., "this is what this song sounds like and this is what it means to me." I do feel particularly connected to certain songs and less so to others, but usually in very personal and idiosyncratic ways. An album review from me could easily degenerate (as I'm sure some feel my show reviews do) into a lot of "This song sounds GREAT and Lucy sounds GREAT singing it"---not very helpful to anybody, and not particularly believable coming from me, because no one in my life, here or elsewhere, is really surprised at this point when I plug Lucy's music. What I will say here and now is that I love this album...and that, while I knew I would LIKE this album, loving it was not a foregone conclusion for me. I had some private reservations about whether these songs, all but one of which I'd heard live at one time or another, would really cohere into a whole that I would love the way I loved Every Single Day. And in fact, the WAY I love The Red Thread turns out to be quite different from the WAY I love Every Single Day---but the extent to which I love it is not. And that's my album review right now. Benay (whose karaoke history since last night now includes: one highly butchered version of Blackbird, one slightly redemptive rendition of Manic Monday, and one fairly respectable, although hardly brilliant, Copacabana) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Jan 2004 10:28:22 -0600 From: "Richard Hill" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Lucy Interview <> You're in luck, Benay. Stumbled across this completely by accident tonight, and I truly can't believe it exists and has never come up on this list before, but I never remember seeing any mention of it here! Go to the website below and you can hear a good two minutes of "Will You Be My Lucy Kaplansky?" I'd never heard of Paul Harrison, but this made me laugh so hard that I had to order the CD just so as to eventually hear the rest!
