I found them both the most delightful people... Please come slumming in New York anytime.. EmmyLou put on a stunner last night at Carnegie Hall.Spyboy was in its best form.. Everyone except Buddy Miller and Patty Griffin were dressed in Black.. EmmyLou proved why she is an ICON and delivered a controlled performance with her usual spyboy instrumentals. It was a night of sad songs, of covers, of songs recovered and song for old friends. She used the harmonies of PG, JM with her percussion instruments and the MCgarrigles well.. She had them join her on many of hte song, including ones the sister wrote.. She didnt cover PG or JM as part of her set.. Julie on orphan girl was a stand out.. Emmylou played to three encores..ending with Boulder to Birmingham and stunning cover of Lennon's Imagine.. ELH is an icon.. and congrats to her and carnegie hall for recognizing her .. The series she curated was weeklong ending with her show last night.. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2003 00:28:59 -0500 From: Benay Bubar Subject: [lucy-list] Lucy at the Y 10/26-quick note I have been STERNLY warned by a good friend who has my best interests at heart that I should NOT post tonight and should instead go directly to bed, as it is already past midnight and I need my wits about me for work tomorrow. Suffice it to say then, for now, that Lucy and Richard gave an AMAZING show here in New York tonight. With many of her ardent fans in attendance, from Kristen and Phil to Elaine and Chris and the Myers family and Mike and Liz (heck, I had so much fun seeing everybody and chatting beforehand that I almost forgot that there was going to be a show too---I'm sorry to those to whom I didn't get to talk ENOUGH!), Lucy---who came as close to REALLY crying onstage as I've ever seen her come, just before The Red Thread, but held it together to sing magnificently throughout---got a standing ovation and the kind of enthusiastic sendoff she deserved as she embarks on her two months off to start being a mom. She and Rick fly to China on Wednesday to get Molly, and I know all our good wishes will go with them. And for now, after those few garbled sentences, I go to bed...the set list was scribbled carefully on a 92nd Street Y brochure, though, and will be posted soon if nobody else gets to it before me (though anyone who likes is of course welcome to beat me to it). Anyway, it's the last set list there's going to BE until next year, so there's plenty of time... Floating on air and hoping sleep comes quickly despite that, Benay ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V5 #211 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
