Yes, OK, as long as I can't review a Lucy show (well, until Sunday!) I'll briefly review a Patty show...because Patty Griffin is becoming one of my favorites, and she just put out both a live CD and a DVD, packaged together (both items I'd love to see from Lucy someday...). It was a LATE show...the impetus for MUCH caffeine consumed today...and the train home took forever, but it was well worth it. Only my second time at Carnegie Hall, though I work right near there---and the first time in this part of Carnegie Hall, which is a much smaller auditorium than the main one. It was my second time seeing Patty Griffin live, too, not counting the songwriters' show in Central Park (which was more of a group thing). Curiously, the first time I ever saw Patty performing on her own, opening for Emmylou Harris at the Beacon, I didn't like her music at all. I've done a total turnaround now! Patty was full of energy and sang almost all the songs I wanted to hear from all her CDs (the ones before the live one are Living With Ghosts, Flaming Red, and 1000 Kisses, and they are all great---Patty is perhaps the only artist aside from Lucy whose recordings I can listen to just about endlessly and still always HEAR them because I don't get tired of them). Emmylou Harris introduced her and sang along with several songs, and Buddy and Julie Miller came out too at the very end to join in singing Mary. It was a wonderful show from start to finish---thanks to Gerry for having alerted me to it and for being an ever-pleasant concert companion even when I don't require chauffeuring services! I know I'm really woefully lacking in Lucy content here...but it would be fun to see Lucy play Carnegie Hall someday...maybe Judy Collins could curate a series of shows there and come out and sing on some of Lucy's songs as Emmylou Harris did for Patty! (OK, I'm dreaming...but dreaming is good...) Enough reviewing for one evening...especially since I'm immersed in reading a children's book I just bought...I LOVED it as a kid and then "lost" it for literally 20 years because I couldn't remember the title or author or even enough of the plot to describe it thoroughly. I finally found it (it was _Witch Week_ by Diana Wynne Jones!) tonight on booksleuth.com, which turns out to be a GREAT site for finding books if you can't remember the title or author. OK, OK, this is not a book discussion list and this has NOTHING to do with Lucy, but it's just a little public service announcement for anybody who's had vague memories of a beloved book banging around in their head for years (there must be other people out there)...it CAN be found again! Happily excited for Lucy and Richard on Sunday...
