Land of concerts and music anytime i want it!! :P to Kansas!! Anyways...i haven't seen Lucy since FRFF and i want to see her before she heads off to baby land :) Does anyone know anything about the location of the Kaufmann Concert Hall. If I drive into the city is there any where I can park near the place? Since it's general admission do people usually get there really early to get a good seat? Is anyone else going to this show? Do i FINALLY get to meet the NYC contingent?! - -K _________________________________________________________________ Instant message in style with MSN Messenger 6.0. The Kaufmann Concert Hall is in the 92nd Street Y, at 92nd and Lexington on the Upper East Side. There should be street parking, though I don't know how easy it is to find...probably there are garages if need be, or if you end up parking further away, it's easily accessible by subway. You'd think showing up early would be helpful for a general admission show...last year, however, they ended up letting everybody into an outer room to mill around before opening up several entrances to the actual concert hall at once---resulting in a mad rush that gave no advantage to those who had made the effort to arrive early. I will probably be early again anyway (we can have a little Lucy-list party at the head of the line!) just in case they do things more fairly this year and being early offers any advantage. However, there are no guarantees---seating may once again depend not on when you show up but on how fast you can run. (Luckily, I doubt ANY seat for this show will seem "bad" given who the performers are!) The New York contingent will look forward to seeing you, Kristen. And keep up the good work on the website...it's great! I am so psyched about this concert! Lucy I am sure will be thrilled to be playing in New York, at the Y, with Richard Shindell..... but she is going to be so excited and preoccupied with her trip to China... I hope she will be able to perform! I am hoping to get there about 45 minutes early to get a good seat. I haven't been at the Kaufman Hall, but a friend who knows the city said there should be no problem getting street parking on Madison Ave. Good luck and see you there! What a tough choice to make...Lucy K or the Larkin Lady. I can understand your dilemma. Two things are certain : 1. Regardless of whom you decide to see perform live, you can't go wrong 2. Both perform live frequently, so you'll get many more chances to see both of them. Perhaps even the dream concert of both of them together (hey, one can dream, can't they?) Steve Gilmore Charlotte, NC USA On another personal note, after two and a half months of waiting, and after missing three whole performances I would otherwise have seen due to conjunctions of bad circumstances, I get to see Lucy live again in TWO days! This sadly means missing Patty Larkin right here in NYC---never something to be done lightly. And, as no rides have been forthcoming, the endeavor involves some precarious public transit planning...but after an incredibly long taxi ride over hill and dale to get to a wedding last weekend (fellow non-drivers: do NOT attempt to go to Ipswich, MA and expect to get a taxi, because you CAN'T...and even if you get a taxi from far away to drive you there for an insanely high price and drop you off at an address that turns out to be only NEAR where you have to be, don't assume you won't have to climb an endless winding path up a steep hill in torrential rain, all while wearing a dress and highly uncomfortable shoes!), I feel ready for just about anything the buses and taxis of Piermont, NY (yup, they at least HAVE taxis there---I checked!) can throw at me! Which is all to reiterate...I'm gonna see Lucy Thursday night! Some reviewing, potentially (thanks for the reports from the Midwest, by the way!) is very likely to come... __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! Ah, but they DID perform together! In Wayne, NJ last spring...most of the Three Folk Divas concerts were Lucy and Susan Werner and Toshi Reagon, but that one was Lucy and Susan and Patty Larkin, and as I recall, it was pretty darned close to my idea of a perfect show. My review is here: http://grassyhill.org/stax/lucy-list/index.cgi?i=1049058978_benaybub I do hope they do it again someday... Tomorrow, there's no question---despite the greater agonies of travel to Piermont than to the Upper West Side, Lucy wins. Got the bus ticket today so as not to have to rush tomorrow, went up the escalator to check out where the gate was, and was promptly trapped for 20 minutes in Port Authority rush hour hell, simply waiting for the next bus to leave so the crowd would disperse and I could get to the stairway back down! (Actually, it took so long that I contemplated simply getting ON the bus and being 24 hours early for the show. That would probably have assured me of a REALLY good seat.) In short, after all the planning that's gone into this (including the taxi-train contingency plan in case I should miss the last bus home), it's Lucy or bust! Benay whose iTunes, on random play, just played Patty Larkin's Inside Your Painting and is now starting to play The Tide, though it had lots more artists than Patty Larkin and Lucy Kaplansky to choose from---how perfect is THAT? ...and who really MUST get around to teaching her new computer not to mark words such as "Larkin," "Kaplansky," and especially "Benay," as misspelled! Lucy will be playing at the Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe, PA (2 hours from NYC, little over an hour from Philly) on Friday, October 24. It's a lovely venue, seats about 300 people and I think it will be a wonderful place to see her, even for veteran Lucy-concert-goers. I'm biased, of course - a close friend of mine and I are producing the show. More info at JTAMusicSeries.com or MauchChunkOperaHouse.com, hope to see some of you there. Or of course email me if you have any questions. I just wanted to let everyone know that I've got an October cell phone drive going on. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and because of this, my Wobblers Street Team and I are heading up cell phone collections. Your used cell phones will be donated to several DC-area women's shelters. Shelters often depend on phone donations for their cell phone programs. Phones are given to residents, specially programmed to dial 911 and hotlines. Details about phone donation programs and my collection are on my website -- http://www.libbywiebel.com Or if you'd rather, check with shelters in your area and donate yourself. Email me if you've got any questions... and thank you!
