I missed his last two outings in New york and missed him last week at the BottomLine so i knew i had a shot in boston before i got to Paul Brady.. i sat galdly thru richard shindell's set of mostly new songs including pete seegers "Waist Deep in the Big Muddy". His new songs are stunning and he also has recently written a love song in spanish..Richard was early in the day and was in good humor.. Catie Curtis was the second set i saw.. Catie had her band and deb talen on harmony vocals. catie is in the studio with a new cd. She also played new music..She also talked about her new daughter Lucy, who i got to meet later in the day Greg Brown began his set with Ring of Fire..JUne never meant for it to be sung like gravelling greg did.. he did that song justice. He went on to sing some greg brown love songs .. greg had david zollo from iowa city with him on piano.. No small dark movie Paul brady following greg brown is a songwriters dream.. Paul brady is a genius.. He was bothered by the flyover planes ( UMASS boston is close to logan or in the flight path) i understood.. recently in central park for the singer songwriters the helicopters were obvious.. this time it was large planes flying into logan.. Paul brady sang a retrospective that included follow on, nobody knows, lakes of pontchatrain, not the only one, arthur mcbridge, 40 shades of green (johnny cash) and he ended his set with Crazy dreams.. Paul set the stage for Ms Emmylou harris who was playing with teh buddy miller band ( just buddY) ..emmylou graced the loving audience with lots of red dirt girl, lots of older songs and LOVE hurts with buddy.. she covered steve earle with :"i dont remember if we said goodbye". I wanted more of her new cd that is out today.. she did sing the one she wrote or channeled from june carter cash when she heard june took ill.. Emmylou had on a lucy kaplansky demin with tapestry jacket.. and looked magnificent..she played about 90 minutes and the band sat out one song.. so it was emmylou and buddy .. no secret appearance by julie.. thats the news from boston...back to new york.. and on to singer songwriters again.. sharon If your sister or your brother were stumbling on their last mile, in a self-inflicted exile, You'd hope they'd meet a humble friend. And I hope someday that the best of Falstaff's planners Give me seven half-built manors, where half-dreams may dream without end dar williams ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Sep 2003 12:19:16 EDT From: Bn2Synthsz@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] lucy tie ins I was there for the Fest too.... And wished that Emmy Lou had been more generous with her VERY long stage time and allowed Mr. Miller a tune or two since I thought her set was a total snore. Sorry...that's the way I saw it. Greg and Catie were awesome. Richard was trying out new material. And I passed on Paul Brady since I went to other stages. just my two cents worth here. Great night. How does she manage to stand on her toes and sing for so long?? Does everyone at Camp Dar at FRFF walk 'round on their toes in homage? Anyway. When she introduced her (very cool and creative) band she explained her lead guitarist had also toured with Lucy. She made a couple of jokes about how he'd not had his hair streaked for Lucy but he had for her etc... as if there was a playful girlie fight going on over him... just for laughs of course. Just for you Dar fans - she started the show with a very humbling human moment. Out she came on to stage to a very warm welcome. She took a bow. She gestured to her band - including them in the welcoming applause. She stepped up to the mic' - ready to intro her first song. She looked puzzled for a moment before realising she'd left her guitar in her dressing room! She, of course, got an even warmer welcome when she came out second time with the guitar.
