She said the broadcast was planned for Sept. 4. - -- Jay ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2003 16:13:55 --0400 From: Subject: [lucy-list] Thank you! The computer belonging to a lucy-list member, possibly at 67.83.187.68 and using Optimum Online (Cablevision) for Internet access, seems to have the W32.Sobig.F@mm computer worm. See http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sobig.f@mm.html, for example, for details and removal instructions. Other list members should not have to worry as the infected attachment was removed from the worm's two submissions before they were posted to the list. From the experiences I'm having and from speaking to another lister, it is looking like somebody on this list (or the list itself---is that possible?) has a virus...there's lots of spam with 100k attachments coming through, and perhaps it's a larger problem, but I've seen a few of the spam emails coming through with addresses of others on this list, and I know at least some emails have been appearing to other list members with my address even though the problem isn't actually me as far as I know (I work exclusively on Macs and haven't opened any attachments). So I wonder if it's a virus that is somehow "getting" addresses from the list to masquerade with. If not everyone here is experiencing this, great...and I guess even if everyone IS having this problem, we shouldn't all respond to the list because that will clog things up MORE..but everyone beware, check your computer for viruses, don't open any attachments... ========================================================= This e-mail message is intended only for the personal use of the recipient(s) named above. Fortunately only 2 of the many sent made it to the list. I've sent a message to the possible suspects and hopefully they will be kind enough to go off line and clean their machine before coming back online. There may be more of those messages that make it to the list. If they do, just delete them. Please don't open any message that looks to be from Lucy-list and contains an attachment. They are not legitimate messages from Lucy-list. In fact, don't open any attachments unless you're certain of them and have anti-virus software running. And check that your anti-virus software is up to date. Now back to the regularly scheduled Lucy chat. It's everywhere....I have 7 email accounts and 4 of them are under attack right now. My school account is the worst, I'm deleting 20-30 of these messages with attachments every 15 minutes. I checked my computer and it's not on there but it seems to be filtering through some email and contacting people on my behalf...very nice. - -K >From: bbubar@hearst.com >Reply-To: lucy-list@smoe.org >To: lucy-list@smoe.org >Subject: [lucy-list] virus somewhere on the list? >Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2003 19:17:43 -0400 > >From the experiences I'm having and from speaking to another lister, it is >looking like somebody on this list (or the list itself---is that possible?) >has a virus...there's lots of spam with 100k attachments coming through, >and perhaps it's a larger problem, but I've seen a few of the spam emails >coming through with addresses of others on this list, and I know at least >some emails have been appearing to other list members with my address even >though the problem isn't actually me as far as I know (I work exclusively >on Macs and haven't opened any attachments).
