I maneuvered my way from Queens to Brooklyn without traffic lights to find my neighborhood kids all thinking or waiting for hte BOMB.. I had to reassure them that there WAS no bomb.. There was NO WFUV either ..I had been scheduled to go see Kim Richey in Manhattan and i guess kim didnt play either.. I waited out the night with extra water, eating and reading by flashlight and Listening to the radio..for news I went to sleep with my TV and light switches on and Woke at 446 to the lights on and TV blaring.. My boss called me at 8 and reported he was going to Queens to see the building.. when i called him at 10. he cancelled work and i blew out of town (so i thought) to newport for the folk fest.. I took 8 hours to travel a 4 hour ride and the traffic was unbearable.. bridges closed.. bumper to bumper..its not a fun place to be on 95 IN summer.. it seems lots of people had the same idea..get out of town.. so its was a long long ride to Massachusetts.. I returned yesterday to find everything back in order.. My refrigerator was still working though i threw out dairy products and perishables.. the blackout was all too reminincent of 9-11 and the picture I saw on friday on CNN verified that.. People at work were scared of terriorism.. there were kids and older people on my block who were also afraid.. for this vast incident to have effected soo many i can understand how they thought that.. New York has been hard hit with its share of natural disasters and some unnatural..I think the city needs a break too.. Good thing it was August when all the therapists are on vacation or too bad it was august.. sharon Now, he's hell-bent for destruction, he's afraid and confused, And his brain has been mismanaged with great skill. I got this overwhelming feeling of "this is the way it's supposed to be..." It was like ummmm.... the only analogy I can think of is the food chain. But it's not the big-guy-eats-little-guy kind of food chain. It's like the big-guy-helps-little-guy regurgitative sort of golden-rule food chain. I am so in awe of Judy Collins... and seeing Lucy with her... it was so wonderful. And it gives you the feeling that probably... in 20 years... when Lucy _is_ the new Judy Collins, she'll have a Lucy of her own up there on stage with her... helping, promoting, etc. I've still got a great feeling about that show.... Libby... who fears she's probably a bit incomprehensible with this post.... but will blame it on insomnia... and the general awe of seeing such a great performance. ===== - ----------- libbywiebel@yahoo.com http://www.libbywiebel.com "Right now, baby, why don't you just concentrate on being you!" - Heroes (Libby) Album available soon, but pre-order your copy of "The Wait-a-While Estates" today! http://www.libbywiebel.com ~ http://mp3.washingtonpost.com/bands/libby_wiebel.shtml __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Actually, I think she will only get 4-5 songs at this gig as well, being the first of three "warm-up" acts for Judy. So, if I am being paid by the word, I will write about the fair as well. eTimothy in south Minneapolis ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2003 11:33:08 -0400 From: Phil Kalina <76106.566@compuserve.com> Subject: Re: [lucy-list] That would be me... And Lucy shares the bill with ... The Kingston Trio !?!?!? I'm sure we'll get some interesting stories about that. I had heard that "The Folksmen" were warming up for her! ;>P Now, an interesting story about "The Folksmen". Apparently the spoof trio started about the same time as the spoof trio "Spinal Tap" (and made up of the same three guys). When the success of the movie "This is Spinal Tap" led to a series of concert performances by the band (the three did actually play and perform live on their own instruments) they thought it would be a rather novel idea for them to warm up a few of their heavy metal shows with their other band, The Folksmen (in full folk costume and makeup). It didn't always go over with the laughs they intended as the pumped-up (?!?) heavy metal crowd did not always realize they were being spoofed by their spoof heroes. Said one of the band members to Time magazine, "It was the only time I was ever booed off of the stage warming up for myself!". T. (Note: The Folksmen are presumably a spoof of The Kingston Trio.) (Another Note: John Gorka's greatest line (at FRFF, 2003) was something to the effect that you can now get a degree in studying folk music. He said the subject was called "Kumbay-ology". That guy is smart and sweet and funny. No wonder Lucy and he make such a great pair!) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2003 14:23:45 -0400 From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] out it the burbs. beany cant go to the show near NY.. on labor day weekend and she is sending in her standin..
