Benay, thanks so much for the information of life in New York. I absolutely LOVE that I have a way of slipping into the world there. NO, I will not cancel my Lucy list! I like reading about all of you in the world! I live in Oregon and see Lucy whenever possible. But my life is much bigger than that just like everyone else's... I was in Maine for two weeks in July and saw Cliff E. (I pray THAT "fish" doesn't flop out of the tank or ???) I lived in North Africa for 6 years in the '80's and cherish the fact that we now have internet! I just bought a new iMac and can now listen to the radio programs that you all speak of now and then... I appreciate that we can be a deep or slight community in this time of disconnectness! Thanks, Sarah ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Aug 2003 13:14:59 -0400 From: "Benay Bubar" Subject: [lucy-list] Lucy in NJ, Suzanne Vega, etc. A momentary return to the mundane to mention, as a public service for anyone in the area who hasn't seen it, that Lucy has a show now on September 5th at the Outpost in the Burbs in Montclair, NJ---taking over for Lynn Miles, who couldn't come to the U.S. Tickets should be on sale now...it's in the smaller place with 130 seats and sounds like a really good show. I imagine it will sell out, though I will not be in competition for a seat because...sob, sniffle...I can't go! Here I thought I was safe planning a vacation to Arizona the first week of September...here I thought there were NO New York area Lucy shows that week because her schedule hadn't changed in ages...and now THIS! I missed her in Hoboken, I missed her on the main stage at Falcon Ridge, and now I'm going to miss her in Montclair too...sniffle...at this rate I'm gonna have to turn in my major-Lucy-fan membership card! But I have my plane tickets, so that's that...sigh. Hear ye, all likely suspects who will be attending the Outpost show...take notes (well, at least in your heads...I am aware that I am possibly the only one who regularly brings pen and paper to Lucy shows...) and post, please! Thanks for the reports from Pittsburgh and Wolf Trap...glad that the power problems did not seem to affect Lucy's performances! Incidentally, I am now officially a Suzanne Vega fan...last night was my first time ever seeing her, and despite her swallowing a bug (the show was outside at an arboretum on Long Island), she was excellent and I ended up with a CD and the understanding that I was possibly the only person in the folk world, if not on the planet, who had NOT heard Luka before! You know how sometimes people mention a song by a particular artist and it doesn't sound familiiar, but then you hear the song and say "Oh, so THAT'S the one---yeah, I know it"? Well, I managed to have a decent awareness of 99.90F. and Tom's Diner...but everyone always seemed to say, "Suzanne Vega? Yeah, she did Luka" and I drew a blank. And it turns out that I was right that I really had NOT heard the song. Now, at last, I have...several times now, as I've been playing the CD since I got home... Benay again grateful to be home, albeit still extremely tired, still out of food, still not really back to normal...and sad about having to miss Lucy at the Outpost, but also weirdly relieved to even have the mental space at this point to BE upset about missing a Lucy show! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Aug 2003 18:11:03 -0400 From: Bill Stewart Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Lucy in NJ, Suzanne Vega, etc. Benay Bubar wrote: I am aware that I am possibly the only one > who regularly brings pen and paper to Lucy shows...) Ahem. While I am busy with Life and town business, I bring pen and paper to all lucy show. Actually, any performer whose body of work I am well aware of. Yes, I CAN write in the dark. :) But I will echo, please if you are the only listee here who is at a show, PLEASE give some kind of review, if even the fill in the blank one Benay? created. Yes, I CAN write in the dark. :) Mea culpa, Bill...I stand corrected! Unfortunately, Lucy has no shows UNTIL that Outpost show in September, except a performance next weekend at the Minnesota State Fair (anybody?), so we can't hope for many more reviews too soon...too bad, as it would've been nice to have the hope of such distraction, but I guess Lucy deserves some time off as much as anybody else does. Still, hey, if anybody wants to make up a review in the meantime, my template (created at just about this time last year...yup, stands to reason, as this is usually when my life gets crazy and my posts do too (grin)...is here: http://grassyhill.org/stax/lucy-list/index.cgi?i=1030247772_benaybub Benay who just bought groceries (except milk...there's still no milk, at least in this part of Brooklyn, but who's complaining?) and got soaked to the skin while lugging the bags home...it sure hasn't been a dull weekend from beginning to end... ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V5 #167 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
