All the sets were short. 1. Written on the Back of His Hand 2. Don't Mind Me 3. Land of the Living 4. By Way of Sorrow (with Richard Shindell) 5. Ten Year Night Lucy sang in several workshops Aug. 2 in the Village Players Theater in Wolfeboro. One we attended had as its topic, "The Hurtingest Songs," with Bill Morrissey, Slaid Cleaves, Richard Shindell and Lucy. Lucy and Richard sang "Sing Me Back Home," an unlisted track on Richard's "Somewhere Near Paterson" disc, and "Love Hurts," which they've performed together pretty frequently over the past four years. Lucy also sang Julie Miller's "Broken Things." Slaid Cleaves brought down the house with his Hank Williams songs, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and a very obscure HW tune, which I think is titled "Drifting Cowboy." This was an outstanding, intimate two-day folk festival under a tent, in its second year, on the shore of Lake Winnepesaukee. The line-up included Arlo Guthrie, Natalie MacMaster, John Gorka, Richard Shindell, the Waybacks, Bill Staines, Bill Morrissey, Slaid Cleaves, David Francey, Mark Erelli, Lui Collins and Lucy. - -- Jay Votel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Aug 2003 07:40:17 -0700 From: "Gina" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Lucy at Great Waters FF It DOES sound like a great festival. How many people would you say attended? Thanks for the review. I agree that the sets were too short!! The workshops the next day were wonderful...I had forgotten how much I like Lucy. I was there more to see Bill Morrissey but they were all great. Slaid was incredible, too. Funny how Lucy mentioned that Broken Things was one of the most beautiful songs she has ever heard..that's the way I feel about Ten Year Night...god,that song is so touching... Did you happen to attend the Songs Old And New workshop where Mark Erelli completely forgot the lyrics to the ballad he was singing :-O It was hilarious! On a final note, I agree that the whole festival was a success. All the performers were having fun and cracking jokes, there were no "stars". A great time! Take care, Ellen P.S. Another deeply moving song Bill Morrissey These Cold Fingers which he did at the Hurtingest Songs...that particular workshop was my favorite : ) - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. The festival only teases you. 5 songs is enough to have you wanting more. But what really s*cks is that 3 people on this list went and didn't meet up. And have both richard shindell and John Gorka sings harmonies to lucy was wonderful. Bill, off to blow his nose again. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Aug 2003 18:06:27 -0400 From: Bill Stewart Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Lucy at Great Waters FF Jay Votel wrote: > Slaid Cleaves brought down the > house with his Hank Williams songs, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and a > very obscure HW tune, which I think is titled "Drifting Cowboy." > No, the title is Ramblin' Man. One of my favorites by Hank Williams. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Aug 2003 19:17:07 -0700 From: "Gina" Subject: [lucy-list] CD winners And the winners are: Chris, Dave and Mike Your CDs will be there within 2 weeks.
