It was a little list meeting, I met Kathy and Doug and after a little dinner we arrived at that beautiful place, which is a little paradise for guitar lovers and a wonderful place for concerts, very atmospheric. The show was sold out and Lucy [ok, Kathy reminded me of fashion things: white t shirt, blue jeans, sandals and lipstick!!] started with [oh god, I hope I get all the song titles right ...] - - Cowboy Singer - - Written On The Back Of His Hand - - Five In The Morning After this entry block she talked about the recent recording sessions and the filthy jokes she had to hear in the live in the studio situation and of course she did not tell the filthy jokes ... [only a joke with a beer drinking German!!] - - Ten Years Night - - The Thread - - Promised Land - - If You Could See What I Can See [??] Then a surprise guest came on stage - Matt Cartsonis, an LA based guitarist and singer - they must know each other for quite time. He played solo guitar on - - Don't Mind Me - - Looking Through You Interrupted by the impressive demonstration of her growing biceps. Matt did a great job just improvising on the songs ... - - This Is Mine ended the first part. Oh maybe I shouldn't forget her mentioning the Greg Brown tribute "Going Driftless" ... and I could experience in reality how sensitive the Greg Brown marriage seems to be :-))) After the intermission (and admiring the wonderful McCabe's guitar selection) she started with - - The Kid - - I Had Something - - Scorpion - - The Thief - - This Is Home (which was soooo touching ...) - - Willy She played Willy, that Joni Mitchell song, on the piano ... and it was an opportunity to introduce Spike, Lucy's brother, to the audience ... - - Land Of the Living (still a healing song for me ...) And again with Matt - - Hole In My Head (that was rocking!!) - - Turn The Lights Back On - - Broken Things ... and the encore: - - Flesh & Bone That was on request and right in the middle Lucy ran out of lyrics, but fortunately there was a break in which some guys bought the CD and so Lucy was helped out [that would have been a Benay job!!!], and the sound guys turned the light on for reading the CD lyrics whenever it was necessary :-) That was awesome, great team work ... A great version of - - Grevious Angel with her and Matt ended up the show ... Oh yeah, then came the other exciting event, Kathy introduced me to Lucy [blush blush], she remembered the Club passim web cast from last year where she sent greeting all over to Germany :-)), a picture was made [which is not ready yet] and a smiling Lucy fan from the country where Lucy never plays finally entered the endless spider web of LA freeways ... Oh yeah, Kathy and Doug, maybe I forgot something ... That's it ... dierk [trying to puzzle out when and where he maybe sees her next time???] ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Jul 2003 23:13:51 EDT From: Bn2Synthsz@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Lucy at McCabe's last Saturday In a message dated 7/21/2003 8:49:53 PM Eastern Daylight Time, dierk.schlie@snafu.de writes: > Oh yeah, Kathy and Doug, maybe I forgot something You forgot to mention that Lucy went to the gym in Sherman Oaks and had a Magic Johnson sighting. Someone in the crowd mentioned that Magic OWNED that gym. So Lucy then mentioned that she once saw Jennifer Lopez with her "then-husband" in a restaurant in NYC and someone mentioned that Jennifer probably owned that restaurant. Yuk Yuk!
