Have you mentioned this and I've been so out of it that I've missed it, or have you been keeping this from us? Does this mean I get to stop plotting (with obvious lack of success thus far) on how to fly all of us and Lucy to Germany? C'mon, if this is true, this is the kind of news that is worth splashing all over the Lucy-list in capital letters.... And Susan, thanks for the great review! It lived up to my standards and more (though frankly my standards aren't so terribly difficult to get up to---I'm thrilled when anybody posts anything about a show I haven't seen!). I'm glad Lucy seems to be doing Grievous Angel again lately...I haven't heard that one since, I think, Clearwater LAST year when she did it with John Gorka. And I'm glad you got to hear This Is Mine---there's always one in my head that I kind of think of requesting should there be an opportunity, and that's been the one for me for a while, but I ALWAYS chicken out on actually yelling anything when she asks the audience. But oh, the one I really can't believe is When I Get to the Border...the song famous for convincing me Richard Thompson was from Texas...that's the second time I've heard of her doing that at a show I haven't attended (and there may well have been more times). Dozens of Lucy shows under my belt and I STILL haven't heard that one live...well, I'm glad you did! I'm glad Lucy got through the keys-locked-in-the-trunk incident unscathed...thanks for sharing that too. How horrifying that she might have had to go onstage without lipstick! :-) Benay ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jul 2003 11:06:22 -0500 From: "Timothy Bruce" Subject: [lucy-list] Audiocassettes are not dead as a medium yet!!! >>>I wanted to mention that we will be doing a Low Power FM (LPFM) radio broadcast again this year. The signal carries about a mile. So if you bring your boombox, Walkman or car radio, you can hear what's going on down at the Mainstage from up at your campsite<<< First off, thanks to Tom Neff for providing this service. Second of all, anyone with a cassette boom box, fresh batteries and a blank cassette can instantly and effortlessly take their favorite mainstage performances home with them on tape! Heavens, they're tasty! Try doing that trick with your CD Player! Of course, Tom may chime in that selected mainstage sets could later be available for streaming over one's computer but I especially like the instant gratification aspects of this. I am seriously considering bringing a battery operated FM/cassette recorder along on the plane--if I can find the room for it! I must mention here that over the decades of the 80's and 90's I collected zillions of cassette tapes. For this reason, I was a bit slow to switch to the new format (CD's) because it meant buying duplicates of everything for the CD player. They are trying so hard to quash this old format that it's becoming increasingly difficult to find any selection of blank cassette tape at stores anymore. Similarly with video tape. They're doing a good job of pushing the technology to a format (DVD's) which will be durn near impossible for average people to de-code and copy. Some vidoe stores are now carrying ONLY DVD's--they've cleared the shelves if the tapes. I'm glad it could be good ole' magnetic tape's time to shine at FRFF this year. Most of the cheaper rental cars still have cassette players instead of CD players so I trust I'll be tooling back down the Taconic Monday morning with fresh live tunes! Whee! I was planning to write a review with big smilies at the end on Sunday ... And it would still be awesome to see you become incredibly rich and manage a German tour with all listers ... but to be honest, it is possibly even more exciting for me to go to the land of so many Lucy shows ;-)) [Soooo much sun and sooo much music ...]. And of course BIIIG thanks to Lucy arranging a LA date in her tour listening exactly when I'm here, that's kind of a dream too ... maybe the dream's big Lucy book is down there too?? dierk :-) Benay Bubar wrote: >>dierk >> >>[usually from the land of no Lucy shows, but this time dreaming about >>next Saturday where I can see Lucy [:-!!!!))] in oh-my-goad-LA ... >>Anyone's going to McCabe's too??] > > > WAIT a minute...Dierk, are you really finally going to SEE Lucy? Wow, Dierk! I'm impressed that you kept this under wraps for as long as you must have---I'm sure this trip wasn't planned overnight! Lucky for me it came out now, though...to have that dream and then get an unexpected Lucy review from YOU all in one week might have made me believe I had seriously lost my ability to distinguish reality from dreams! I'm only sad that you are not coming to this side of the country and therefore I don't get to meet you too.. Of course, you WILL be introducing yourself to Lucy, I trust...you'd better! I wish I could see that...hmmm, you have a Web site, right? If you're bringing a camera and could get somebody to take a picture of you with Lucy and if we on the Lucy-list could eventually see it...OK, that's a lot of "ifs," I admit. But you are such a fine and devoted Lucy-list member that in a sense, you're not the only one who's waited a long time for this! :-) Have a WONDERFUL time...as I am sure you will! And tell us about it afterward...surprise or no surprise, we will still be expecting that review from you!!! Also missed (in a different way) Nina Gerber's guitar just a tiny bit but solo always works for me.
