Since, Lucy went through so much to do the show in West Virginia -- blizzard, flood, lost luggage, canceled flights -- I should have figured hearing the show when aired would not be easy. So, if any Lucy-listers could be of any assistance as to any public radio stations with on-line streaming who plan to air the Lucy show, please respond with information, and if convenient, please record. So I was sitting here in my office, headphones on and cranked up, excitedly awaiting WFUV's *usual* 2-4PM Mountain Stage broadcast -- which is, as suspected, deferred for the pledge drive. At least I (and Benay, and Chris, and Elaine, and Gene, and Isabel, and...) have the reassuring thought of attending the Huntington Shindell/Kaplansky concert later on tonight -- but wait! WNCW, out of the oh-so-wonderfully named "Isothermal Community College" in Spindale, North Carolina, is ending their pledge drive today and should be webcasting the Mountain Stage show on schedule TOMORROW, Sat Apr 12, from 6-8 PM! So take heart, WFUV listeners -- there is more in the isothermal heavens than in your New York world's philosophy. As a side line, if you listen to any public radio station's streaming radio on a regular basis -- pledge, pledge, PLEDGE! Interested parties who can't listen for some reason or another, please contact me off-list, as I'll be doing my best to get the show on tape. With all that Lucy went through to get there, it's surely a show worth hearing and cherishing again and again! -Todd - -- - --------------+-----------------------------+----------------+----------------- Todd Satogata | BNL C-A Accelerator Physics | (631) 344-5826 | satogata@bnl.gov - --------------+-----------------------------+----------------+----------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Apr 2003 14:27:05 -0400 From: Todd Satogata Subject: [lucy-list] URL for WNCW Me again! If Todd's recording of the show goes well, I'm interested in getting a copy of the Lucy AND Indigo Girls portion of the radio show via trade or "b & p" (mailing you blanks and postage). I am a major fan of Lucy and I love Indigo Girls a real lot, too. Hence, my interest in this show with two of my most favorites on the same bill. West Virginia Public Radio has a web page that lists affiliates who carry "Mountain Stage" and they highlight those with Internet streaming. Go to http://www.mountainstage.org/ and select the "affiliates" link at the lower left. Thanks, Joyce, for reminding us to listen. WFUV always airs Mountain Stage at the end of the week anyway. That means that most of the stations that carry Mountain Stage will air Lucy's show within the next few days, but WFUV would normally run Lucy's show NEXT Friday. So, I suppose that , if the fund raising is over (Yeah, sure!) they might still air the show with Lucy. This mass starts at 8 PM (no Idiot's Delight that night), and we're *hoping* it's over by 10:00 so we can squeeze the whole show in by midnight. Problem we have is that it will start at 10 anyway, even if the mass doesn't end by then. So the whole show may not get heard. In which case we will try and find another home for it. Great show in Huntington tonight. Great to see Benay and Chris and Elaine. No review form me though. Besides, there's one coming from Benay. There's only one problem: she's had no phone service (and therefore no internet connection) since Tuesday. So which one of you cut her phone line to keep her from posting? Jeff ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Apr 2003 02:40:51 -0400 From: "benruth@earthlink.net" Subject: RE: [lucy-list] Alright, which one of you did it? Yup, it's me. Briefly, and at 2:15 in the morning, through the grace of Elaine, who is allowing me to use the computer here at the slumber party we are having to celebrate the Huntington show at her family home on Long Island. But since I have actual live people to interact with, I will not be doing reviews tonight. There WILL be reviews coming...eventually. I have been to TWO Lucy shows since last you saw me, and they have been fine adventures indeed. However, my life has been consumed with work and frequent daily trips to Verizon Hell. If you did not know about Verizon Hell (and here I apologize to any Lucy-listers who may work for Verizon---you are exempted), that is where you go when your phone line mysteriously dies in Brooklyn on a Tuesday afternoon (thereby destroying your home Internet access too). There was the thrilling visit from the technician, who did not once venture inside my home despite my having taken half a day off work for it that I could ill afford. There was the assurance that it was an outside problem that would be solved in two hours...then two hours after that...then three hours after that. There have been multiple conversations, each increasing in volume, with relentlessly perky "repair and resolution" representatives--about 47 different chipper personages---who can provide neither repair nor resolution. There have been more cell phone minutes used, at 37 cents each, than I dare think about, mostly on hold with my pals at Verizon. There have been threats issued by me: "I'm LEAVING Verizon immediately after this is resolved!" which have been met with suppressed giggles from the perky repair reps, who know it's like the Hotel California---you can never leave. Finally, there was the assurance that, while they had not yet found the problem and had no idea how to fix it, they WOULD be charging me lots of money. Now, tomorrow, I have to rush home with bated breath for a NEW technician to come and decide exactly how bankrupt I am going to become (probably still without a phone). Anyhow, to NONE of these people can I say, "But it's a CRISIS---I have to post on the Lucy-list!" No, they just do not understand. So...I will see you all someday...maybe. In the meantime, I have sporadic email access provided by those tolerant and charitable enough to allow it. Elaine and Chris are wondering why I didn't just spand this typing time doing a review. But I haven't got the brain cells left tonight. I will see you all---probably to the dismay of whoever has disrupted my phone line to shut me up!---if and when I can free myself from Verizon Hell. Best wishes to all...
