Actually, I am quite content to be pre-empted by GOOD news for once. As for whether the hair thing makes it on the air ever, that's anybody's guess...if anyone actually tells me anything new, I'll pass that on, but I doubt they will...should anybody ever be flipping channels and run across it, let me know, because I'm not sure I'll have the patience to watch GMA every morning just to see (and am still not sure, for that matter, that I'd even WANT to see). Otherwise...well, as I said, it'll just be my personal version of The Movie That Never Officially Happened. And I've got the highlights for as long as they last. And you heard the inside story here...which was, trust me, far more interesting than anything that might have made it on TV! And, since I don't yet appear to be becoming famous enough to remove myself from the larger world and change my name (and heck, hobnobbing with the social elite wouldn't be my thing anyway---too much stress over what to wear), I'm afraid you'll still have to put up with me here as... That's a good attitude! Yes, the world wants to know Everything there is to know about Elizabeth Smart once again....and I'm so glad she was found but I quake inside when I think about what she has endured for the past 9 months. Benay, your highlighting piece will see the light of day. I've highlighted my daughter's hair before and plan to do so again due to her constant pleading....so I'd like to learn some new tips! kathy ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Mar 2003 21:20:14 EST From: SM082987@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] "I'm Looking Through You" Was that Sharon who said "I'm Looking Through You" was a Harrison song? Hmmm, I believe that to be a McCartney/Lennon record that was written by Paul McCartney exclusively but ascribed to the pair as usual, due to contract, just as many Lennon songs were. Or was that the song, my memory slips with age. brian ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Mar 2003 18:21:50 -0800 (PST) From: Libby Wiebel Subject: [lucy-list] Re: Producers > ------------------------------ > > Date: Wed, 12 Mar 2003 21:53:32 -0500 > From: "Benay Bubar" > Subject: [lucy-list] Producers > > > If "What's a producer?" is not too dumb a question, or even if > it IS but > somebody wants to take a stab at answering, I'd be interested. Wow... the relevance of this question in my life right now... :) I really think that there are a lot of "right" answers to this question... but here's a little bit of what I've learned.... What a producer does varies from person to person. Some producers want a lot of control. The artist goes to them... the producer says what songs will be on the album, how they will be instrumented, etc, etc... the artist basically sings. I met a producer once who even said that he helps to rewrite portions of peoples songs! Other producers give the artist a lot more flexibility and say in how things will work out... They suggest things and listen to the artist's suggestions... But the producer is the one with the experience and know-how... S/he says... let's try adding a shaker to that, but let's pan it from left to right in the stereo field so it sounds kind of like a snake slithering through... Or the producer says... hmmmm... we're got an acoustic guitar and a djembe and some shakers... we've got a very "organic" or "woody" sound going... let's not add anything electric.... Stuff like that. I mean... the artist may be able to say... it needs something there... and the artist may even know what that "something" is... but often the producer knows more... like... Ooohhh.... so-and-so plays a mean harmonica or... we might want to try an accordion in place of the piano solo you're thinking of.... Some of my musician friends and I play this game... if I win the lotto, if I could have anyone in the world produce my album, who would it be?! Buddy Miller is usually at the top of my list, but my latest answer is Nora Lender. I really don't know anything about her other than she's in Californian and she produced Cosy Sheridan's album "Grand Design"... and I think it's such a brilliantly produced album... But anyway... I spent the day in the studio... and that means I'm exhausted... bed time for this Lucy fan.
