Thanks, sharon. Good for you, Benay! Whew! I was beginning to thing SMOE was busted--out of disk space or worse. I wonder whether I'll drive to Ashland for Wednesday's show. I wonder whether it will have stopped snowing by Wednesday. Lucy played Ten-Year Night, Land of the Living, Don't Mind Me, By Way of Sorrow, and This Is Home....there may have been one more in there, but I can't really remember. Of course, the harmonies were to die for, and Lucy was in the thick of it! The walk to the illegally parked car a few blocks away, however, was very painful in the -13 degree (with windchill) weather. Peace, Sheila ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Feb 2003 22:00:32 -0500 From: "Benay Bubar" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] purchase Yes, I'm here...just haven't felt like doing a full-blown review, for personal reasons that I promise have absolutely NOTHING to do with any decrease whatsoever in my enjoyment and appreciation of Lucy and her music. (Or with any lack of reverence and affection for my delightful and patient travel companions, Sharon and Elaine, and my favorite north-of-NYC partner in crime and concerts, Gerry.) It was a really wonderful show; Lucy, with Duke Levine's brilliant assistance, outdid herself once again. Sharon got down most of it (thank you, Sharon), but this is the exact set list I have: Cowboy Singer Written on the Back of His Hand End of the Day The Tide Bill Morrissey song (forgot its name but I've heard her do it once before---with mention of the potential new album again; I hope this one makes it under consideration...Lucy faked me out with this one because I've gotten to expect Secret Journey after The Tide) (air guitar story) Loch Lomond The Thief (followed a bit later by the story of the four-year-old requesting it in the U.K.---hope that hearing it two times in two weeks signals its REGULAR return to the rotation) I'm Looking Through You If You Could See (on piano...gorgeous) I Had Something Ten Year Night (prefaced by showing off of the new earrings Rick had given her for Valentine's Day and a dedication to him that left her almost struggling to get through the song, though she did wonderfully with it) Set two: No Place to Fall (she said she'd been singing this Townes van Zandt song for years, but I'd never heard her do it before) Don't Mind Me Scorpion Guilty As Sin This Is Home Land of the Living Willie (I had never heard this Joni Mitchell song and was pronounced too young by my companions and encouraged STRONGLY to get some Joni Mitchell...Lucy did a great job with it, and her part in the Joni Mitchell tribute in March, which will include this song, should not be missed by anyone who can get to it) Hole In My Head Turn the Lights Back On Nowhere (yes, OK, I helped out from the fourth row when Lucy forgot the first line...after that she was fine) By Way of Sorrow Encores: Promise Me Broken Things The acoustics were incredible in the SUNY Purchase Arts Center, and Lucy said they treated the artists right too---she even commented that the microphone tasted like toothpaste, minty, and that this was very thoughtful of whoever had used it before her. She also teased a lot at the beginning about how she realized it was Valentine's Day and she was doing dark songs, and there were going to be many blissful love songs coming up...but not yet! The audience seemed fully enthused about and supportive of Lucy, which was nice to hear...her funny comments provoked much laughter and she and Duke got lots of strong applause. I was just thinking it would be nice to know about the Cambridge show, and then Sheila's post came in---thanks for that, Sheila; it was good to see it. I don't suppose anyone on the list was at the Mountain Stage taping today...if I had to guess I would bet it was overrun with Indigo Girls fans, with original Lucy devotees in shorter supply (although surely she won some converts there!). But in any case, I hope it went well and will look forward to hearing it on the radio (anyone who hears when it will be broadcast, please inform the rest of us). And finally, since I'm not sure anyone here has officially said this today...today is Lucy's actual birthday, and even though she won't see it, it seems right that the list devoted to her should be on record as having taken note on the proper day...HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LUCY!
