During a report about a concert hall in Amish country<<< I heard it too, (back in the machine shop where I sometimes work) as I was manhandling sticky nuts and bolts! Pretty unusual context for me to hear mention of Lucy over the radio. The nice thing is that they referred to her (and Cheryl) to demonstrate the caliber of talent this non-profit community venue has attracted. I think Lucy has her fans at NPR now, just like at CBS in 2001-2002. The whole story had me waxing sentimental about a very similar venue an hour south of here (where Lucy has also played), the Oak Center General Store, in which an organic farm implement, dry goods, herb and food store is on the ground floor and a large, wood-paneled music room is upstairs. It boggles the mind the caliber of talent they bring in there and they keep prices low. Each show is opened by a political/philosophical monologue by the farmer/host and local community members are asked to rise and make announcements about what's going on. Also, before the show, they feed each of the performers down in their kitchen with organic food grown on the orgainc farm outside. Folky & funky! During that interview with the host of LVD's I also resonated with a parting shot he made: "When it started, I figured it would go maybe five years, then something would happen and it would be over. (sigh) Now I don't think I could stop it." I have two friends who have opened up their own private space for large community musical gatherings (for 5 and 10 years respectively). There is still plenty of joy in the work, but I KNOW there's some sighing going on every now and then! ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V5 #29 ****************************** This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
