Many of you might know this story, but it was new to me and I think it is worthy of sharing with the lucy-list. I saw David Massengill last night. He is the person who wrote "My Name Joe." He mentioned that several people had recorded it and named Lucy as the first one on his list. He said that the song is based on a true story of something that happened during his old job as a dishwasher in a large restaurant in New York. At the time, 1986, he was also playing his music at Folk City where he met Joan Baez. She said that she wanted to wash dishes with him one night. He got the management to agree and she washed dishes with him and sang songs in several of the native tongues of the other bus boys and dishwashers. He said that she brought some of them to tears. Several of them took pictures with her... I think this is such a cool story! This was my first David Massengill experience. He spoke more than he sang, but this is good because he is a great storyteller. I do recommend him for a pleasant concert. He is also a wiz on his 3 stringed dulcimer.
