That was fun to read...and it's neat to hear from someone who knew Lucy back then and recognized her potential so early on. Thanks for sharing the photos themselves, too...I'm not sure I would have recognized them as Lucy, but they are fascinating to see. I, too, really appreciate the blast from the past. So Lucy "listened to a lot of Grateful Dead", eh? Maybe I wasn't that far off base when I told her that if there's ever a folk tribute to Garcia she should sing "Peggy-O" (my favorite Jerry cover ballad) for it. Maybe I'll bug her again about learning that one, when she's at the Ark next weekend. Steve Ah yes, somebody mentioned the Dead at Alpine in the 80's. Fond memories indeed. I'm not sure Gorka would take that as a compliment. It is possible that she went to the Jewish camp Interloken, not the music camp in Michigan. It is where I went to camp and then worked as an teen. It was not a religious themed camp, just sponsored by the Jewish Community Center in Milwaukee. The camp was in Eagle River, also a place loaded with camps. Wisconsin is like that, eh Libby? There's an article on Greg Brown in the Sunday NY Times...the link is below. (You have to register to read anything on the NY Times site, but it's free.) The story mentions Going Driftless, though not Lucy specifically (she is lumped in among "other female artists"). However, despite the glaring flaw of not mentioning Lucy, it's an interesting enough piece. http://www.nytimes.com/2003/01/12/arts/music/12APPL.html Benay ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V5 #10 ****************************** This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
