But be warned, if you're not into a folkified version of perfformance art then you might not like her stuff! She is currently hosting knitting circles before her shows and ends her shows with a fire baton skit (using glow sticks instead of actual fire). She also typically holds a male beauty pageant wiht a spelunking hat on her head. She's really funny live. I love Christine b/c of her compiliations which are a great way to discover new artists. But her own albums are usually funny the first few times and then get tired after a bit of listening sort of like listening to a Bill Cosby comedy album. If you get one of her albums I suggest one of the compilations or Big League Babe which is a tribute to her. They are much more listenable for the long run, you still get to hear some of her music plus you get to discover new folks (and hear ones you already probably know). Plus both the Big League Babe tributes are really cheap right now, I bought them for five dollars each at FRFF and I think they are that much online right now. ~Simona - --- Pashonfish@aol.com wrote: > Okay, I am once again going to show my ignorance. > Christine Lavin is going to > be here January 16 at the same venue where Lucy > played. Her shows are more than just music. I would recommend that you just go to experience her in concert first, then buy some of her many CDs and enjoy her music afterwards. She is a regular songsmith with a real sense of humor. I hope you enjoy the concert. If anybody wants, or knows anyone who wants, a Nields/Eddie from Ohio ticket for Peekskill, NY on Saturday, February 1st, fourth row aisle near the center, $25 (face) or best offer, email me off-list....I would've loved to go if not for the conflict." Benay, this sounds like a LOT of fun! Especially if the Nields sisters have some back-up accompaniment. And they'll probably let you dance there in the center aisle. Perhaps we should have an online vote: "What should Benay do?" Then again....maybe not! And Sharon wrote: "so its Lucy and Richard for Falcon Ridge so what about dar.....". It was my impression that when they did NOT book Dar for FRFF 2002, they said in the same breath that they WERE inviting her for FRFF 2003 because it was the 15th anniversary and they wished it to be a reunion of sorts. This was posted to the Dar list from the FRFF staff to sort of ease their pain when she was not booked in 2002. So that would place it pretty much in Dar's court as to schedule it or not. Richard in, huh? That makes a set! Perhaps 'the set' can do their C3 voodoo in all but name, calling themselves "Why Why Why Not?" Timothy in snowless Minnesota (go figure!) already booked for FRFF 2003 (where they have already had 70 inches of snow this winter). ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Jan 2003 11:06:18 EST From: Leewalling@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Dar at FRFF and Benay's quandry... Timothy and others, What are the accomodations for Falcon Ridge? Has anyone stayed in a hotel? Where? Is it easy to get in and out of the festival? I like camping, but I prefer a hotel room and shower. I'm thinking of going to this festival for the first time and would like some feedback please. Forgive my ignorance here in Wales but... Are there actually any falcon's in Falcon Ridge? Or is just the same old malls, condo's and various other American words for things which we tend not use. Hello, The festival is in Hillsdale, NY and is very accessible. You are able to camp out but I would not recommend it. I too prefer a nearby hotel. Their are places in nearby Great Barrington, MA or Stockbridge. Many nice places and a few adequate motels that are roadside types. OK, since this subject header has now appeared on half a dozen messages, whether or not they are related to me, I feel compelled to address both points. 1. FRFF---I respect the fact that not everybody wants to camp at Falcon Ridge, but camping there is REALLY not so bad. I am somebody who had never camped before my first Falcon Ridge three years ago, and I was terrified that I would be just miserable. But it's really just about the most civilized camping experience you could have. Luxury? Surely not. But there's nothing quite like getting up at 5 or 6 a.m. to go out with your tarp and wait to set it down...or stumbling back to your tent at midnight or later with a flashlight, hearing people singing around you into the night. After three years of camping at FRFF, I wouldn't have it any other way. 2. Benay's quandary---Actually, a quandary is, to quote Webster's, "a state of perplexity or doubt." With all due respect to Timothy, I would like to point out that I am not actually IN a quandary, and therefore polls would not be helpful in this case. I am not trying to DECIDE whether to see the Nields/EFO or Lucy on February 1st. Yes, I think the Nields and EFO are great, and both groups are on my overall favorites list. But the fact is, if Lucy is within a couple of hours of NYC and I find out I have the ability to get there and there's no pressing family obligation to stop me---I mean, if it's just a matter of deciding between a Lucy show and a show by ANYBODY else---Lucy wins. So what am I left with? The expense of a spare ticket I can't seem to unload? Yes---and if all else fails I guess I'll just consider it an extra donation in support of good music and make up for it by brown-bagging a few more lunches. But quandary? Nope. :-) Benay ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Jan 2003 18:47:13 -0800 From: "Gina" Subject: [lucy-list] Live Webcast - Darryl Purpose Please excuse the double post, but I think both Gorka and Kaplansky fans will enjoy this. Darryl actually recorded "Ring on My Hand" with Lucy. It's happening in a few minutes, but it should be archived if anyone wants to catch it in the future. There may be a way to email Darryl during the concert, so that he can respond in real time on the air. But, I'm not sure about this. I hope some of you get to listen.
