In what has probably become the latest regularly scheduled outdoor music festival in these northern parts, Lynn Miles headlined the fledgling Minnesota Folk Festival (a free event in a public park in St. Paul) last September 22nd. It was a cold clear night and a full moon rose over Lynn's set. She said that, due to the extremely cold temps, it was good that she was from Canada. (Vance Gilbert just moaned about it.) She praised "the best puppy in the world" that she had befriended over the weekend at the festival, and told a story about being pulled over by a St. Paul cop for speeding, but that he let her off when she said she was in town playing at the folk festival. How's that for the power of folk!? She's no figment of your imagination and "Unravel" is great and worth the considerable wait since "Night in a Strange Town" (though I still think "Slightly Haunted" is the best). We saw her at the Watchung Arts Center on Dec. 14 and it was a great show. I'd only ever seen her as a solo act, but Keith Glass really added something. After the show she mentioned a live recording of this tour. She said probably around February there would be news on her web site.
