What the news media over already calling The Great Fire Of Edinburgh, which broke out in the Edinburgh's Old Town just south of The Royal Mile at the weekend, didn't just destroy The Guilded Balloon club at the Cowgate level of the buildings and Leisureland at South Bridge level of the buildings, but La Belle Angelle as well. Bell Angel (as we were all want to call it) was the last Edinburgh venue that Lucy played way back when (probably around 1997) and it was a regular haunt on the UK Dar Williams tours back then as well. Due to the bizarre nature of the Old Town, if you approached from South Bridge and Chambers Street, the venue was a basement one or two levels down from street level, but if you approached from the Cowgate it was a basement two or three levels UP from street level. It may not have been the best place for our favourite singers to perform, with its strange shape and pillars in the way of the stage, but it was the first place I ever saw Lucy sing live. Maybe one day Lucy will return to perform in Edinburgh, but it won't be to La Belle Angelle. She certainly is spell-binding and yes I do care about what she wears even though she is married. Looking is not a bad thing... There will be a number of us happy Lucy-listers at the Rahway show...and any show that involves Lucy AND Susan Werner is sure to be a treat! Incidentally, the tickets for one of the Women in Folk shows in March (can't recall right now which one...I have the tickets at home) actually refer to the event as Three Folk Divas! So Lucy has been officially anointed a diva now...
