It's Friday at 2 p.m. on WFUV in New York; other times in other places, I assume. This is a GREAT broadast, worth hearing not only for Lucy's performance but also for the part where she joins Cheryl Wheeler in an absolutely fantastic rendition of the Gandhi/Buddha song...and just before that, Cheryl Wheeler says "Lucy KapLANsky" in a way that nobody else possibly can say it, and that's also not to be missed! By the way, I have a tape of the last broadcast of this show, but no reliable tape player at home at this point...if anybody is able to capture it on CD somehow and is willing to get it in my direction (not for any commercial purposes---just for personal use), email me offlist and I will promise to pay all associated costs AND swoon with joy. Mike G ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 Dec 2002 21:15:25 -0500 From: "Benay Bubar" Subject: [lucy-list] Judy's actual PBS Lucy mention At the risk of sounding pathetic (did she really have nothing better to do?), I will admit that I came home tonight, rewound my VCR tape, and sat there fast-forwarding through the This Land Is Your Land show from PBS last night so as to watch JUST the pledge breaks that featured "the PBS guy" (who turns out, upon closer inspection, to have actually been Pete Fornatelle of WFUV!) talking to Judy Collins. And although I will probably have dreams tonight in which I repeatedly hear "Call now and support Channel 13!" after hearing all those plugs in rapid succession, I was finally rewarded by getting to see for myself that Judy DID in fact mention Lucy on TV! Pete Fornatelle asked her who the up-and-coming stars of folk were...and first she mentioned John Gorka and his song "I'm From New Jersey" and quoted the opening lines. Then she mentioned Beth Nielsen Chapman. And then she said, "[And] there's Lucy Kaplansky from New York. I'm crazy about Lucy's work!" OK, so she did not expound on that statement, or quote Lucy's songs, or leap out of her chair for emphasis...but it WAS a definite, positive, Lucy mention from Judy Collins, months after Lucy actually sang with her, and I was happy to hear it! Benay to whom it has been suggested that, instead of flying Lucy and all of us to Germany with my presumed eventual great wealth, I should simply use those riches to fly Dierk over HERE to see Lucy!...which is perhaps less grand, but which would have the advantage of allowing me to put the plan into action even in the unlikely event that I achieve only MODERATELY great wealth... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Dec 2002 21:22:42 EST From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] first PBS then MTV hey benay.. do you think we can get ozzy to mention Lucy.. if some president can invite ozzy to a formal dinner than maybe..
