Richard and Lucy HAVE sung Mary Magdalene together...I just haven't seen it or else don't remember. So as not to be accused of spreading misinformation, I hereby retract my statement that I didn't think they would have sung it together even if it had been sung Friday night. 2. My little WFUV concert memory spot played on Sunday morning, when I normally would have been listening, but as it happened I wasn't home to hear it! Sigh. At least somebody heard it! It just figures that I would miss my moment of fame. Well, at least it was only 30 seconds that I actually talked...which means I ought to have 14 minutes and 30 seconds of fame left for the future... I love reading your tales...they make my day ! I've been a Lucy fan since " The Tide " and have seen her here in London quite a few times over the years. I saw here just recently at The Jazz Cafe....and like almost everyone on the list I agree that Lucy just keeps getting better all the time ! ( sounds like another Beatles song ! ) Anyway, keep up the commentaries, stories etc.... I LOVE 'EM ! Best Wishes to you and everyone on the list... John Blackley. I think i have seen it..i know i have seen them do it I have seen lucy sing and richard play and ive seen lucy do the harmony on MM.. was it makor??? Benay werent you there? sharon If your sister or your brother Were stumbling on their last mile In a self-inflicted exile Wish for them a humble friend And I hope someday That the best of Falstaffbs planners Give you seven half-built manors where half dreams may dream without end dar williams ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2002 16:35:26 -0500 From: Phil Kalina <76106.566@compuserve.com> Subject: [lucy-list] Mary Magdalen It strains my memory, but I think I heard Lucy and Richard perform "The Ballad of Mary Magdalen" (twice, because they did two one-hour shows and Richard didn't realize the audience for both shows was mostly the same) in a church basement in Oakland, New Jersey during First Night Oakland on December 31, 1997. Btw, it seems to me that several list contributors, including sharon and Benay, are already famous as you're read by lucy-listers all over. phil At 28 Oct 2002 16:07:47 -0500 (est), Sdgold60@aol.com wrote: > > Benay- I wasnt there but the first singing of Mary Magdelene > by Lucy is that infamous Brokerage show, where Richard's > voice gave out and he asked Lucy to fill in for him. > I think i have seen it..i know i have seen them do it > I have seen lucy sing and richard play and ive seen lucy > do the harmony on MM.. was it makor??? > ... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2002 14:43:37 -0800 From: "Benay Bubar" Subject: [lucy-list] missing musical memories > I have seen lucy sing and richard play and ive > seen lucy > do the harmony on MM.. was it makor??? > Benay werent you there? All right, I give, I give. If it was Makor, I must've been there. And even if it wasn't Makor, if you were there, Sharon, I likely was too. Clearly the only rational explanation is that at some point between then and now, aliens abducted me and surgically removed the portion of my brain that remembers hearing Lucy and Richard do Mary Magdalene together. (Yes, I hear some of you thinking that aliens having abducted me might explain a lot of other things too...but let's not go there, OK?) Anyway, I know about these aliens who remove musical memories---they are obviously the same aliens who made me forget what my parents insist was my major formative concert experience. ("But how can you NOT remember? We took you to see Olivia Newton-John when you were three!") Apparentlymy parents went through a great deal of time and trouble to do this, and I apparently had a great time, and even though neither of them has shown ANY interest in live music since then, they are quite convinced that this single experience was responsible for whatever positive musical interest I now have. Thus, they remain rather insulted that the direct recollection of that Olivia Newton-John show is not with me a quarter-century later. Although, hmmm...now that I think about it, when Lucy used to say that Don't Mind Me came out of her being asked to write a song on the order of Hopelessly Devoted to You...well, I think I felt a pang...perhaps somewhere in my subconscious, I realized I had come full circle...
