In the U.K., pants is defined as underwear. Lucy should have aid trousers; instead, the crowd thought she was wearing leather underwear. See also 'Irish Whiskey incident' " Actually that one would go something like - Leather Pants Story - Lucy's partial faux pas in the Bein Inn in Scotland in December 2001 in which she hold her British audience that she felt like a dominatrix in her brown leather pants. The audience was capable of translating the colonial tongue into the Queen's English and realised that her was talking about her trousers and not her underwear but it was too much for one audience member who pointed out the difference to her. In her embarassment she then asked for a drink from the stage. See - Asking for an Irish Whisky in a Scottish Pub See - "You're my Scottish Stalkers - I like stalkers" See - First attempt at singing Loch Lomond - to an audience that know more of the words than the singer does. See - Audience refuse to tell Alice Peacock why sheep have different coloured paint on their backs... I wonder if she ever found out. It was a busy night. Two days and counting to the first UK date, in Belfast Friday night. Two listers plus a Lucy virgin will be there - anyone else joining us? Thank you for the response regarding folk music venues in N.Y.C. It's interesting to note that the venues have not changed significantly since the 80"s. However, I imagine the entire complexion of N.Y.C. has been altered forever subsequent to the terrorist attacks. It must be difficult being a resident of N.Y.C. and coming to grips with loss of the people and the towers and with the way individuals are forced to conduct themselves in the city. I believe it was Wagner who said that life without music would be senseless. Apparently, to many people on this list, life without Lucy would also be senseless. Best wishes and warmest regards, Kevin. For instance: Temporary radio-induced paralysis: condition brought on by hearing a song by a favorite artist (i.e. Ten Year Night by Lucy) start up on one's desk radio at work just as one is about to do five extremely important urgent tasks, all of which involve leaving one's desk (and the radio)... which results in an entirely unreasonable compulsion to make excuses to remain at one's desk without distractions for the duration of the radio song, even if one already owns the CD and could listen to the song absolutely any time at one's leisure Benay ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 20:06:04 -0400 From: Beth Simons Subject: [lucy-list] of npr and racial profiling interesting lucy story... in my communication and culture class a week or so ago, we were discussing racial profiling. i was, of course, reminded of "land of the living" and the taxi driver scene. i mentioned it to my professor, who is also a friend, but kept forgetting to bring in the lyrics for him. i finally remembered today, and he told me that he had actually heard it on the radio since the day i mentioned it! he's an npr nut, so it didn't surprise me. but YAY for new lucy fans. he liked it a lot. on a semi-related note, guess who's the newest intern at the new hampshire public radio folk show?! ok, it's not *definite* yet, but very very probable. hehe i'll laugh if the woman who runs it is on the lucy-list and sees this. hehehe. :) usually a lurker but couldn't resist, beth :) <>o<>o<>o<>o<> Beth Simons beth@simons.mv.com Durham and Merrimack, NH (and St-Brieuc, France, at heart) "I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be." --Douglas Adams ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V4 #220 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
