How can this be? It may be that no one from those areas who was at those shows is on the Lucy-list (how can they stand not to be on the Lucy-list? That would be like...like...not reading the New York Times every day!). But I'm still thinking maybe there was somebody there who just didn't post...and, well, perhaps I've just been going about this all wrong. I started thinking about how Dar Williams gets people to sing along with the song "Iowa"---she wants people to sing on the chorus, but she doesn't just demand that they do so. She encourages them first...coaxes them...makes them feel comfortable about it. So perhaps that's what I've done wrong. I demanded reviews...perhaps I need a different approach. Thus, I, your tireless public servant, have decided to provide some encouragement by developing a template for Lucy reviews for those who feel in need of this sort of support. Gone to a Lucy show and not sure how to post about it? Just refer to the below, choosing the appropriate term where necessary. - ----- Lucy did a (WONDERFUL, STUPENDOUS, AMAZING) show tonight in a (CLUB, AUDITORIUM, CONCERT HALL) in the (TOWN, CITY, COUNTRY) of (FILL IN LOCATION NAME HERE). The opening act was (NONEXISTENT, LOUSY, OKAY, SOMEWHAT TALENTED BUT NOT LUCY). Lucy finally came onstage wearing (LEATHER, PREPPY/HIPPY CLOTHES) and declaring that she was (HAVING A GOOD, WORRYING ABOUT A BAD) hair day. She sang a number of songs, and (NOBODY, DUKE LEVINE, ZEV KATZ, BEN WITTMAN, SOME OTHER PERSON) played with her, and (NOBODY, RICHARD SHINDELL, JOHN GORKA, SOME OTHER PERSON) was there to do harmonies. It was great to hear standard Lucy favorites such as (WRITTEN ON THE BACK OF HIS HAND, TEN YEAR NIGHT) and new songs such as (LAND OF THE LIVING, I HAD SOMETHING, THIS IS HOME) as well as the more unusual offering (INSERT RELATIVE LUCY LIVE SHOW RARITY HERE), and everyone laughed at her dad's song (THE ALPHABET SONG, SONG ABOUT PI, ON AN ASTEROID WITH YOU). Lucy's spoken intros featured (THE BUG, HER PARENTS) and commented on (INSERT UNIQUE FEATURE OF LOCATION IN WHICH SHE WAS PLAYING), at which point someone in the audience said (INSERT SMART REMARK OF AUDIENCE MEMBER). Speaking further to the audience, Lucy remarked on (THE CUTE KIDS, THE PEOPLE THERE WHO KNEW HER SONGS, THE PEOPLE WHO WERE UP REALLY LATE). It was touch-and-go for a few moments when Lucy (BROKE A STRING, FORGOT A LYRIC), but she recovered right away and all went well. No one wanted the show to end, but at last it did, and then Lucy came back for the encore and was convinced to do (IT AIN'T ME BABE, GUINEVERE, SONG FOR MOLLY). It was an (INCREDIBLE, UNFORGETTABLE) evening, and I rushed right home to tell the Lucy-list about it. I can't wait until Lucy returns again to (INSERT LOCATION HERE)! - ----- Wow, I'm so inspired now! I feel like I could review those California shows myself! The fact that I've been in New York the whole time is only a minor obstacle. OK, now back to my copyediting...in a continuation of the Work Week from Hell (which will last at least another week, thus becoming the Work Fortnight From Hell---but isn't "fortnight" a great word? I think people should use it more often---and hey, I see Lucy again in a fortnight!), I have to work this weekend. Lucy apparently had to work this weekend, too (calling Carson City, Nevada...anybody out there who saw her in Carson City tonight?), but I bet she had more fun doing so...
