I want to send them something ( sent a card last week) and figure I'll send some "designer" sharpies (they seriuosly make this product) for sharon's cast but can't think of what to send suzi! If you have any ideas please tell me. Also, sharon will be wearing a cast I presume? otherwise back to the drawing board about the designer sharpies. tootles, Simona Simona L. So she has a splint. (Again, I haven't seen her or even talked to her directly since the surgery...this is all hearsay, which I am merrily passing along as truth.) Anyway, I'm sure that not having a cast is probably preferable in terms of mobility and stuff...but I did sigh a little wistfully upon hearing it, because I can't think of anybody who could've made better use of the signing potential of a cast than Sharon. Maybe we should get her a big fake cast. Or a tattoo needle, so performers and friends alike could just put their names on the arm itself... :-) Benay ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Aug 2002 00:01:49 -0400 From: "Benay Bubar" Subject: [lucy-list] calling Davis, California... So Lucy is in Davis, California tomorrow night. And I am having a really, REALLY bad work week. (Exhibit A: I have just come home. It is past 11 p.m. And I do NOT have what is commonly considered a "night job." Anecdote to illustrate this day in particular: My company does provide car service home when it is really late---generous enough, and it sounds nice, at least---but tonight's car service driver whined to me about how he didn't LIKE the streets I told him to turn on. It wasn't a bad neighborhood; it was the most direct route to my home; there wasn't even a lot of traffic. He just didn't LIKE it. I was tempted to mention that I was sorry my trip home didn't conform to his personal driving preferences, but hey, I didn't particularly LIKE being still on my way home at quarter to eleven, a good solid 13 hours after I'd left home this morning, either. Yet I was kind...I made soothing noises until we got off the roads he didn't LIKE. Anyway, think of a whole day made up of experiences like that...soothing unreasonably cranky people while exhausted and attempting not to tear your OWN hair out...then add in tons and tons of actual WORK that has to be done...and that's my day in a nutshell. Aren't you glad you asked? Oh, yeah, right...you didn't.) So what do Lucy's being in California and my bad, lousy, ridiculous work week (and yes, it's only Tuesday) have to do with one another? Well, since lately I'm almost never HOME in time to actually talk to or see people I know, the Lucy-list is the only decent distraction I've got (that is, aside from the random one-sided email conversation I keep directing toward Sharon, who is probably deleting my emails on sight by now...if she is even feeling like seeing her email at all yet, which I'm not too sure about...I don't expect her to be typing in any case). Therefore, in order for me to maintain full sanity, or at least the partial sanity that I think can generally be attributed to me, somebody has to post about the Davis, CA show tomorrow night. We are assured of at least one review of the Sebastopol show Friday night (no public pressure on the person I've roped into THAT duty, but he knows who he is and, to his great credit, almost surely would have done it even without my demanding it!). But I don't know yet if anybody's covering Davis for us...and all I have to say is, if nobody reviews that show to give me something nice to ponder, I may be forced into further public rumination about, in no particular order: 1. car service 2. bugs 3. turtles 4. leather 5. formative childhood experiences (OK, never really got into that one, but it was on the drawing board and still might crop up) 6. bad poetry 7. Sharon's arm 8. talking/singing computers Yes, if nobody reviews the Davis show, I must somewhat regretfully declare that any of the above topics (and perhaps others not yet born, not yet known) will again (or still) be fair game. I won't enjoy it any more than you will, but that's just how it is. (Actually, not true. I will probably enjoy it LOTS more than you will. And, in all fairness, reviews of the Davis show might only serve to DELAY the other stuff a bit. But my basic point stands.) Anyhow, consider yourselves duly warned. And to all a good night. Or morning, as it may be...
