I think everyone on this list should applaud Benay for her massive review of Lucy's recent show. What a magnum opus! I think her post is just six words short of Tolstoy's WAR AND PEACE. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and for taking the time to write your wonderful posts that bring us to Lucy shows when we can't go. Grin...I'm glad if people are enjoying my reviews...honestly, I write them mostly for myself, because writing helps me cement my memories of the experience I've had. But I do like being able to share a show with people who weren't there, and I also think it's valuable to have a record of these things. I've been on this list (albeit lurking for a while) since its inception, but lately I've been going back to the archives and trying (only somewhat successfully) to figure out dates for some of my own early Lucy show attendances...there was a long period before I started keeping rough notes of when I'd seen Lucy, let alone setlists. Anyway, I wasn't reviewing back then, but along the way I've stumbled upon some wonderful reviews of long-ago shows (including some by Sharon and Timothy before I knew them---could there have been such a time?), some great Lucy anecdotes, and some neat setlists. Granted, not everybody is going to have time or motivation to take a trip through the archives, but it's wonderful to have the ability to do so, to know that while each individual show may be fleeting, these things aren't really lost. I'm only seeing Lucy once in the next two months, in Bridgeport on 9/7, but I really hope others will pick up where I've left off. She's going out be out in California and Nevada this week and then has a show in Great Barrington, MA before Bridgeport, and then there's the England/Ireland tour. Note to any of you who will be attending any of those shows (or Bridgeport, for that matter---hey, I may post about shows I attend, but I haven't got a monopoly on it!): even if you're not currently one of the frequent (or even occasional) voices on this list, please consider writing in about it. No need for epics, no need for great writing, no need even for an "official" setlist (I relied on memory for a while, and still generally do so for shows other than Lucy's). Just tell us whatever sticks in your head. I know that I---now entering into heavy Lucy withdrawal, hence another excuse for my trips to the archives---am only one of many who would appreciate it. Heck, even if you're not going to a Lucy show anytime soon, please consider writing in anyway, if you want to. A few of us (lately, I'm the one who comes to mind) tend to be exceptionally chatty, but I know there are a lot of lurkers who never chime in. That's perfectly fine...no pressure, you're allowed and completely welcome to lurk forever...heck, cheerful greetings hereby go out to all lurkers, and be it known that I'm glad you're here even if you never, ever say anything!...but if you feel any inclination to post, about a show or anything else even mildly Lucy-related (and I mean mildly...I'm the one who has been managing to discuss turtles!), don't be intimidated. Speaking as one who was intimidated about these things for a long time---what if I have nothing interesting to say? what if people are totally bored by me? (well, they'll probably just press "delete" and you'll never be the wiser, or they'll get off the list if they truly dislike it)---it's really not so bad out here. This list cheers me up even when I'm not seeing Lucy anytime soon and not feeling too cheerful...so my feeling is, the more the merrier!
