I guess I was just so impressed that Pete and Maura jumped right in and played guitar with all they jammed with. But I also was impressed with people like Garnet Rogers and Cliff Eberhardt who watched the lead performer's fingers and tried to figure out the chords in order to play along. This was my first time experiencing workshops of this nature and I found it fascinating! Strong words. You sure are a straight shooter, Sharon! :-) Again, I'm a newbie and haven't been to as many shows as you have so my opinions are slightly naive perhaps. k ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Jul 2002 09:39:03 -0400 From: Jay Votel Subject: [lucy-list] More on Falcon Ridge For the record, Chris and Meredith Thompson recorded their stunning version of "Tanglewood Tree" by Dave Carter on their latest CD. It was a great part of the tribute to Dave. And it's an outstanding CD. I'm curious and hope to find out later this summer if Tracy appears at all of the festivals Dave and Tracy had booked this summer. Even the management at her agency doesn't know what her plans are, and I daresay this soon, she doesn't either, for sure. What a brave, brave person she is. FRFF deserves praises for putting together such a fine tribute to Dave Carter. No one could blame Tracy if she had decided to stay home in her grief. Instead, she chose to share with all of us who were still in shock, which shows just what kind of performer she is, and to what regard she holds her fans and listeners. Our hearts went out to her and hers to ours. FRFF put up a statement about the tribute on its Web site (which I didn't see until I returned from Hillsdale). The Philadelphia Folk Festival has a statement also (www.folkfest.org), but as of yesterday PFF didn't mention any plans for a tribute. So it will be interesting to see what happens, if the idea of a tribute takes on a life of its own. Everything at FRFF was done in the best possible taste. It's hard to imagine that anything after this can come close. At the very least, I expect to hear a lot of Dave Carter songs at Rocky Mountain Folks Festival and probably at Kerrville Wine and Music, where I last saw Dave and Tracy perform last fall. We also parked this year at the FRFF workshop stage for the most part and enjoyed the extemporaneous nature of the performances there. FRFF has vastly improved the sound at that stage to prevent the sound from the main stage from bleeding over to distract listeners. Many times in the afternoon it seemed that the workshop stage had the bigger crowd. It was because it had the better show. - -- Jay Votel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Jul 2002 08:06:03 -0700 (PDT) From: Deb Woodell Subject: [lucy-list] Tracy Grammer Jay wrote, > > I'm curious and hope to find out later this summer > if Tracy appears at > all of the festivals Dave and Tracy had booked this > summer. On Monday afternoon on WXPN, David Dye played an old interview with Dave and Tracy, then after the national portion of the show, he talked with Tracey Tannenbaum, who is with the station and was at FRFF, who said she heard they will do a tribute show in Portland, Ore., because he was so loved there. Not sure where she got her info, but it sounds logical. Deb ===== You can take the rock band away from the girl and think you've tamed her. But, she'll just pick up an acoustic, give you that innocent little girl grin, quietly laugh and say? "Nevah!" Yahoo!
