(No, not with Lucy...not with anybody I'd heard of except Rickie Lee Jones.) But I just had no idea Mountain Stage was televised---I thought it was only a radio program. Is this televised version a new thing, or was it also televised somewhere when Lucy and Cheryl Wheeler were on a few months back? I doubt that it was, because I don't remember anyone's saying so and I think someone would have mentioned it here at the time if it had been. But I'm just wondering if I missed something. Benay who thinks posting four times about fairly different topics on the Lucy-list in a little more than 24 hours must set some kind of weird unintentional record...but I had to entertain myself somehow until the New Bedford reports start coming in... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Jul 2002 19:34:57 EDT From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] New bEdford.. day 1 saturday in new bedford i could only stay at the festival for ONe day.. i left Joanne, Simona who i never saw sheila and boyfriend, libby kristen, jeff and sandy, woj- where was meredith joe from teh dar list.. and many for.. for the special events of the new bedford summerfest.. One i must say.. that the festival was bigger .. meaning more people than the 4 years ive gone in the past.. i went in 1999 to see susan werner and cliff eberhardt and have been going back every year.. this year.. i felt. this little hidden secret on my home turf was invaded and the secret is out.. its one the best little festivals.. and its not so little the first workshop i saw was a bunch of groups, an italian duet, a local (good) old time band and Jack hardy and his band.. then there was this french group with a cute fiddle player.. i sat at the stage.. til the next workshop.. the law firm of Werner, Warner (jeff) Rogers (garnet) and Rogers (sally) the sound was out.. so Sally rogers Led the group in a 4 part harmony round.. she was the IOWA Sing Along woman from Hell.. she kept the audience going til ... first up.. presenting her case.. Susan werner.. singing .. Born too Late then the rest of the round .. Garnet rogers. Jeff Warner who plays traditional music sally rogers.. there were songs about firmness of resolve, murder ballad, susan sang.. So heavy-m Because there was a Lawyer mentioned in it.. that was her last song.. i think.. the lack of sound cancelled a third songs.. then i stayed for the LucyK, Ricahrd Shindell, Kevin Burke, and Ray Fisher from Glascow.. the topic.. song that will make you cry.cry cry... so Lucy sang.. Lach Lomand with Ray Fisher as her harmonist and ASL interpreter.. Richard opened with Wisteria with LK on harmony LK and RS did Speaking with the Angels.. Richard also did Reunion Hill I missed most of SW"s solo set.. I did catch hte end.. two songs.. then i went to see Liz Carroll, Johnny Cunningham, Kevin Burke on fiddles then i caught Richard who sang a new new song.. and had LK with HIm for Are You Happy now.. and two others.... they slip my mind.. and back to the custom stage for Love songs.. Susan Werner, Ray Fisher Lucy Kaplansky and Sally Rogers... susan opened with Midwestern Saturday night sally rogers told a story about her adopted child and the first lullybye she sang which got Lucy to sing.. I had Something.. susan and Lucy sang The water is wide and The workshop got a standing Ovation... Susan sang.. Ode to Billy Joe.. with the audience singing along... YO east coast.. look for more pairing of susan werner and Lucy Kaplansky Look to the 92nd street Y show.. and two scheduled shows in NJ in spring.. the chemistry and vocals .. of Lucy and Susan are outstanding ... this is a rare treat to see who women of such talent paired up.. and they were having Fun... susan remarked that the midwest.. has no jews.. except for in chicago where Lucy is from.. and the 3 from des moines.. the reason for this comment they are both midwest girls.. Lucy is now in NY.. susan in now in chicago... they ahve lots in common.. but no barbed wired boys.. next up... I also heard the 13 minutes of the LK interview on NPR... congrats to the DOC.... but i missed LK on the mainstage... A Lucy show or a few hours with my two 8 year old neices and 10 year old neice who i havent seen since November.. Neices.. VS Lucy...well the neices were worth the passing on new bedford day 2... and lucy is singing her mainstage set as we speak... or i write... GO LUCY..Sing away... sharon There's a gypsy down on Bleecker Street I went in to see her as a kind of joke And she lit a candle for my love luck And eighteen bucks went up in smoke ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Jul 2002 20:35:14 EDT From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] memory 61 revisted- As paul simon wrote.. Im old.. work it out.. my memory of RS's set is coming back... Richard sang... Ballad of MM with Lucy on harmony... and AYHN with LK on harmony ,, then she ran off to her workshop... she also changed out of her short dress to jeans and a denim jacket NO leather at the whaling fest... at least not day.. 1 and sorry Mosh ... my dear.. i did see you too .. and even hugged you... it was late.. and i hadnt eaten.. so forgive my oversight sharon There's a gypsy down on Bleecker Street I went in to see her as a kind of joke And she lit a candle for my love luck And eighteen bucks went up in smoke ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Jul 2002 21:33:50 EDT From: Cpattersonhome@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] New Bedford Questions Welcome home to the Lucy listers who travelled to New Bedford. I've been sitting here in Virginia all weekend kicking myself for not seriously considering making the trip. In addition to missing Lucy, I checked out the website and realized I also missed an opportunity to see Richard Shindell, Patty Larkin, Susan Werner, Ellis Paul, the Kennedys and others. What could I have been thinking? For some reason I thought the festival was in Bedford, inland, not New Bedford on the coast. No offense to any Bedford residents, but my impression on business trips there is that it's a nice suburb. Period. If I had known that the festival was taking place in an historic harbor town, I would have been there. So, while the festival is fresh in everyone's mind, I'm hoping to get some advice for next year. Any recommendations on places to stay? Did anyone notice a nice hotel or B&B within walking distance? If not, is the parking situation tolerable? Any nice places with water views? Any suggestions on fun or interesting activities besides the festival? I would appreciate hearing your thoughts. Hope everyone had a great time. Day 2 - Look who's Number 1 Sunday in New Bedford I'd never been here before. But my friend, Donna, and I needed a break from our respective job searches so we decided to go to Cape Cod for a few days. We worked Sunday in New Bedford into our plans. We saw Lucy's main stage hour, fortunately as it was earlier than on the printed schedule. Lucy sang Small Dark Movie, Scorpion, Don't Mind Me, Turn the Lights Back On. Also Someday Soon, which Judy Collins had recorded. Lucy told the story about her husband, Rick, slaying the flying waterbug. Her encore was It Ain't Me, Babe. Huge tent, big crowd, loud applause with many people standing. Lucy talked about how NPR interviewed her because so many people inquired after they played part of Lucy's rendition of Cliff Eberhart's Goodnight three weeks ago. Lucy was pleased with how the interview (which was broadcast yesterday morning) turned out. Then Lucy was (it seemed to me) somewhat embarrassed, surprised, proud, and really pleased to report that she and Rick checked amazon.com's rankings Saturday night and found that "Every Single Day" was their Number 1 seller. I'm looking at amazon.com right now and Lucy ranks Number 3, trailing only The Dave Matthews Band and Norah Jones. Wow, well done! Congratulations, Lucy. ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V4 #158 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
