I'll be renting a car in Albany at Noon on Thursday. I could take a rider in to the Festival from the Albany area. Getting home might be a bit of a strain. I have to return the car early early Monday morning to catch a 6:10 AM flight. If you can cope with early morning travel, I'm fine with bringing you back, too. If you would rather return to Albany Sunday night and put me on your couch til morning, that would be fine also. I figured it would be appropriate to mention here now because WFUV gave away tickets today and mentioned it on their website, but they listed it as "Judy Collins with Beth Nielsen Chapman, Arlo Guthrie, and Tom Paxton." For some reason, they left out Lucy! (The other sites mentioning the show leave out Beth Nielsen Chapman, except for Judy Collins's site which lists BOTH Lucy and Beth Nielsen Chapman...so I can't say for sure what the deal is with Beth Nielsen Chapman...but in any case, Lucy WILL be there!) I had difficulty checking tonight for some reason, but I assume tickets are still available...and if anyone is on the fence, I just want to recommend that you GO! Yes, it's true that it's somewhat more expensive than your average Lucy show, and it's also true that it's hardly going to be a whole evening of Lucy---with three other musicians (and maybe four), Lucy will only get to do a few songs by herself. And if you absolutely hate Judy Collins, you probably wouldn't like it because you are bound to see and hear a lot of Judy Collins in this (hence, the "Judy Collins" in the title!). But if you're in the position I was in before I saw the Newark version of this show in April...you really like Lucy and you think you probably sort of like Judy Collins, but you're wondering whether it will be worthwhile when it's not really a LUCY show per se...well, it WILL be! Worthwhile, that is...even in its non-Lucy aspects. Judy Collins is way better in live performance than you might think if you haven't seen her, and the other non-Lucy performers tend to be plenty interesting. And hearing Lucy sing with Judy Collins and the others at the end---as I hope she will get to do again---is an experience not to be missed. (And hey, at the very least, as a hard-core Lucy fan, it's awfully fun to watch the Judy Collins fans---and they WILL likely be mostly Judy Collins fans, who I think it's fair to say are largely, um, in a different demographic than many Lucy fans---get introduced to the music of "that new woman," as one of them who had quite liked Lucy described her to me after the Newark show!). Anyway, no pressure...I'll still have a good time even if my boss and his wife, both of whom I've convinced to tag along, are the only other OFFICIAL Lucy fans I see there. I just wanted to spread the word to anyone who might only have seen/heard the incomplete (Lucy-less) WFUV listing---Lucy WILL be part of it, and it's likely to be a treat, so if you're interested, don't miss out! Benay who saw Sarah Harmer tonight (good, but not Lucy), plus some opening acts (not as good and ALSO not Lucy)...and in the course of it all discovered that I am apparently the only person on the planet who has heard OF but never, ever, ever actually HEARD Pink Floyd's The Wall. (Anyone want to step up and prove I'm not alone after all? Perhaps we can form a "People Who Haven't Heard Pink Floyd's The Wall" support group...I now feel I need such a group, as I have been subjected to much ridicule.) ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V4 #144 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
