Who taped it? Plenty to trade, including Lucy and Richard both this year at the Ark (separate shows, not together). Now here I am, two months later, and along comes an album so stunning it puts a cattle prod to shame. The album, "come away with me" is, for want of a better superlative, amazing. Her voice will melt you like butter. This album is mellow to the extreme, kind of a blend of country and jazz. Slow, relaxed, cool. However I describe it, I won't be able to do it justice, you'll just have to check it out yourself. http://www.norahjones.com I'm told there are also some tracks here: http://www.mp3.com/stations/acrossthepond Matt ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jun 2002 16:26:49 EDT From: Halesbop@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] NLC - Recommendation: Norah Jones Funny Norah Jones should come up here again, but she's everywhere now it seems. I sent the following post to NanciNet earlier today, so those of you who are also on that list please bear with me. thanks for reading, Steve I enjoy Norah Jones alot, have seen her twice and will be again in 2 weeks. But I wish another deserving artist was getting 1/10 the hype that she is. That would be Jenna Mammina, the Michigan native now living in the SF Bay area who performs in styles similar to Norah (jazz/cabaret/a litte pop). Jenna has a more compelling voice than Norah (IMO) and her recordings are every bit as musically interesting. What Norah may have over Jenna is that she does play piano (while Jenna is *only* a vocalist) but I really believe the only reason Norah is on the brink of stardom and Jenna is relatively obscure is that Norah has the media push that a big record company provides. Please, if you're a Norah Jones fan--check into Jenna Mammina. http://www.jennamammina.com/ Steve Hale ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jun 2002 16:07:47 -0500 From: "Richard Hill" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] NLC - Recommendation: Norah Jones Thanks for the tip about Jenna, Steve. She doesn't have a "more compelling voice" to my ears, but she sounds pretty great, anyway. To my ears, there is nothing at all 'overrated' about Norah (not suggesting that you were saying she is). To me, she IS the real deal! Apparently, quite a few people agree. "Come Away with Me" has already gone 'Gold', and I can easily see it staying on the charts for two or three more years, eventually 'multi-Platinum'. Matt, and anyone else, go to Norah's site ( http://www.norahjones.com ) and click on "Music". You will find a motherload of mp3s from her House of Blues show in Chicago (4-16-02), or streaming RealAudio if you prefer, PLUS her performance of "Come Away with Me" on Craig Kilborn's show, in your choice of 6 different video formats. ~Richard ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jun 2002 16:28:15 -0500 From: "Richard Hill" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] NLC - Recommendation: Norah Jones P.S. Norah Jones will be on "Late Night" with Conan O'Brien, Tuesday night, June 4! ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V4 #123 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
