We both like folk music and have run into each other at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley a couple of times. He asked what I was doing this summer and I told him about the Kate Wolf Festival and the lineup. When I got to Lucy he said - "Do you know about me and Lucy?" Turns out they're a couple of years apart and my former boss attended the U of Chicago. Former-boss loved singing and playing and he & Lucy used to jam together. Lucy went off to NYC. Former-boss decided to take a year off from college and try to be a folksinger. He goes to NYC and walks into Folk City and sees Lucy. The Speakasy/Songwriter's Coop/Fast Folk stuff was just starting around this time. He got a songwriter showcase at Folk City (he thinks Lucy put in a good word for him). He said that was his last big gig - he returned to college, business school and started his life as a consultant. He moves to NYC and he and Lucy live in the same neighborhood and they run into each other a bunch. Lucy's now in school and not singing much. He moves to San Francisco. While traveling on business he goes to a music store and finds Lucy's first CD. He goes to see her at the Freight and the renew their friendship and he goes to see her whenever she's around. He was surprised that I knew Lucy and I mentioned another Fast Folk alum had recently moved to San Francisco (Wendy Beckerman). He knew her as well as is planning to contact her to say hello. I found an album in the cheap bins called "Bleecker Street - Greenwich Village in the 60's" which is a compilation of 60's covers sung by various people, one song, "The Last Thing On My Mind" is sung by Cry Cry Cry, Lucy gets lead on the first verse. The album has many favourites of the list on it, Iris Dement ( who duets with Loudon Wainwright ), John Gorka, Ron Sexsmith, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Paul Brady. Hadn't seen the album before, or seen it since and there was only one copy in the shop so I dont know if this is something of a rariety or not. Comes with a nice little booklet with some pics and a bit of history. Matt - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). It shouldn't be a rarity yet, it's only a few years old. I can't believe it was in the cheap bins!!! Was it a chain store? If so, which one? I'll go get some more. I highly recommend this album to any folkie out there.
