Gosh, I'm sorry you had so much trouble, Kristen. (Alphabet song! That was the one I completely missed in the first show when MY connection died.) The technological gods smiled on me for the second show...I had an absolutely crystal-clear, steady audio connection the whole time, which shocked me because I've NEVER gotten such a good Webcast on my computer with my lowly dial-up connection! I kept expecting it to crash, but it didn't. Anyway, the second show...how cool was THAT? Almost all different songs, plus I got to hear the two new ones, I Had Something and This Is Home (OK, Lucy hasn't titled it yet, but that's the most logical title), really clearly. SUCH a treat to "be there" for their debut! And how neat that Lucy even talked to us Internet listeners after she found out she was being Webcast (I was surprised she hadn't known)---how'd you like your practically personal hello, Dierk? I, for one, had much trouble remembering that I wasn't actually THERE...when Lucy asked if people were watching on the Internet, I almost said, "YES!" before I recalled that she wasn't going to hear me. When she asked if anyone at the second show was there from the first show, I wanted to say, "Me, me!" And when she said she was doing different songs from the first show, I wanted to remind her that it wasn't JUST relevant to the two people who were there from the first show after all. (Incidentally, my favorite Lucy quote of the night was, "I'm trying to do some songs I'm not sick of...I just can't remember them!") I spent half the show wanting to applaud for Lucy but reminding myself that I was alone in my apartment and she wasn't going to hear it or care. Then I figured, what the heck, and I started applauding anyway! When she talked about how the audience was up late and did people have to work tomorrow and how she felt guilty about keeping them up, I thought, well, actually, Lucy, thanks to the Webcast, you're actually keeping people all over the WORLD up late on a work night! (Grin...but it was so worth it!) Oh, and Lucy must have forgotten about the Webcast when she took that little jab at New York..."people in Boston are so nice...I live in New York, and it's different there." I thought, hey, wait, Lucy, New Yorkers are listening...I live in New York, and I'm nice! :-) Oh, well...Lucy does live here, as she said, and she is nice too, so she is forgiven! I think my favorite part of listening to the shows tonight...besides the simple fact of being ABLE to hear Lucy despite not being in Boston, and the fact that she did so many different songs and included the new ones...was thinking about the other Lucy-listers who were listening on the Web too, or at least trying...Dierk and Gina and Kristen and Simona and others, whether you have or haven't posted yet. Because of this little community we have built around Lucy, I feel like I know people I haven't ever met, but usually only a few of us, if any, get to see any given Lucy show. We all love Lucy, but we can't all make it to seven shows in two months like those people at Club Passim (whoever they were), so we have to make do with seeing her when we can and, when we can't, sharing the experience with each other vicariously. Well, tonight, for once, we got an evening when many of us could see her at the same time---a chance to celebrate Lucy separately, but together in a way, too. I just happened to think that was unbelievably neat. Thanks to Club Passim for making it possible, and thanks to Lucy for allowing them to broadcast her (even if she didn't initially realize she had!), and for giving so many of us a truly memorable night! Benay who already knows she will be drinking lots of coffee tomorrow...well, um, actually, later today ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 01:24:51 -0400 From: "Benay Bubar" Subject: [lucy-list] oh, and Thanks for the setlist posting for the late show.
