Anyone know where i can find more? (i'm talking lucy kaplansky here!) Whats everyones fave album? (or a good one for a 'newcomer' to her music?) It is an incredible album. However, I might just save yourself the time and buy them all, because she is so awesome! Well for starters... free & downloadable music... ummm... I don't want to get into a discussion of the legalities and junk of all that... I believe that's a dead horse that many of us on this list and others have beaten over and over. Let's just say that if you want it bad enough, the music is out there... and if you search hard enough, you'll find it. However... if you want to check out a few song _snippets_ to see if you like the songs, then I'd recommend going to amazon.com and looking for Lucy... (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=music&field-keywords=lucy%20kaplansky&bq=1/102-3835615-8843365) Check out the links where you'd go to buy the albums, and I think (almost?) all of them have the track listing where you can listen to mini-snippet-samples of the tunes. Might help you out in the decision making process. Lucy's site, http://www.lucykaplansky.com, also has mp3 snips... for that same decision-making purpose. Soooo... fave album? Impossible question. I love 'em all and the fave rotates from week to week. Her newest, Every Single Day is phenomenal... but I still think I'd recommend Ten Year Night as a "starter" for your Lucy collection. It seems to span the "total Lucy experience"... and I think is a Lucy _classic_. If you go to any Lucy concert, I guarantee you'll hear songs from that album. The earlier 2, The Tide and Flesh and Bone have been on my "most listened" list lately... so hey... I'm sure you'll end up with all of 'em... *wink, wink*. Truly... if you like Lucy, you can't go wrong. Pick one... and you'll be addicted. OK... maybe I'm a little eensy bit biased here... but hey. :) Join the crazy fan club. We're a lot of fun! That would be tough. 10 Year Night is my favorite but Every Single Day is closing in fast. Ironically, Flesh and Bone contains my two favorite songs ("If You Could See" and "This is Mine"). I'd but them in this order (Ten Year Night, Every Single Day, Flesh & Bone, and The Tide). However, I'd buy them all. There are at least 3 songs on each I listen to almost daily. In most cases I'd have to say Ten Year Night for your first cd. I think my personal fav is Flesh and Bone (of course that's subject to change in the next 20 minutes :)). Every Single Day is phenomenal and the Tide holds a very special place in my heart....oh jeez...just get them all!!! But really..."typical" Lucy (if there is such a thing) is Ten Year Night, ESD is more "rock", Flesh and Bone is partially borderlining on country (almost--not quite), and the Tide is softer and more covers. So it really does depend on what kind of music you like.... And hey Libby....who you calling crazy?! I prefer to think of myself as "passionate" *grin* Kristen www.angelfire.com/folk/lucykaplansky - ----- Original Message ----- From: Katy Sent: Sunday, May 05, 2002 11:36 AM To: LUCY-LIST@smoe.org Subject: [lucy-list] Lucy-list: downloadable music Hey :) On the net i've only been able to find one RAM that was downloadable (so i can listen to it offline). Libby... who is both passionate and crazy :) - -------------- passion \Pas"sion\, n. [F., fr. L. passio, fr. pati, passus, to suffer. See Patient.] 1. A suffering or enduring of imposed or inflicted pain; any suffering or distress (as, a cardiac passion); specifically, the suffering of Christ between the time of the last supper and his death, esp. in the garden upon the cross. ``The passions of this time.'' --Wyclif (Rom. viii. 18). The state of being acted upon; subjection to an external agent or influence; a passive condition; -- opposed to action. Capacity of being affected by external agents; susceptibility of impressions from external agents. [R.] Moldable and not moldable, scissible and not scissible, and many other passions of matter. --Bacon. 4. The state of the mind when it is powerfully acted upon and influenced by something external to itself; the state of any particular faculty which, under such conditions, becomes extremely sensitive or uncontrollably excited; any emotion or sentiment (specifically, love or anger) in a state of abnormal or controlling activity; an extreme or inordinate desire; also, the capacity or susceptibility of being so affected; as, to be in a passion; the passions of love, hate, jealously, wrath ambition, avarice, fear, etc.; a passion for war, or for drink; an orator should have passion as well as rhetorical skill. ``A passion fond even to idolatry.'' --Macaulay. ``Her passion is to seek roses.'' --Lady M. W. Montagu. We also are men of like passions with you. --Acts xiv. 15. The nature of the human mind can not be sufficiently understood, without considering the affections and passions, or those modifications or actions of the mind consequent upon the apprehension of certain objects or events in which the mind generally conceives good or evil. --Hutcheson. The term passion, and its adverb passionately, often express a very strong predilection for any pursuit, or object of taste -- a kind of enthusiastic fondness for anything. --Cogan. The bravery of his grief did put me Into a towering passion. - --Shak. The ruling passion, be it what it will, The ruling passion conquers reason still. --Pope. Disorder of the mind; madness. [Obs.] --Shak. 6. Passion week. See Passion week, below. --R. of Gl. Passion flower (Bot.), any flower or plant of the genus Passiflora; -- so named from a fancied resemblance of parts of the flower to the instruments of our Savior's crucifixion. Note: The flowers are showy, and the fruit is sometimes highly esteemed (see Granadilla, and Maypop). The roots and leaves are generally more or less noxious, and are used in medicine. The plants are mostly tendril climbers, and are commonest in the warmer parts of America, though a few species are Asiatic or Australian. Passion music (Mus.), originally, music set to the gospel narrative of the passion of our Lord; after the Reformation, a kind of oratorio, with narrative, chorals, airs, and choruses, having for its theme the passion and crucifixion of Christ. Passion play, a mystery play, in which the scenes connected with the passion of our Savior are represented dramatically. Passion Sunday (Eccl.), the fifth Sunday in Lent, or the second before Easter. Passion Week, the last week but one in Lent, or the second week preceding Easter. ``The name of Passion week is frequently, but improperly, applied to Holy Week.'' --Shipley. Syn: Passion, Feeling, Emotion. Usage: When any feeling or emotion completely masters the mind, we call it a passion; as, a passion for music, dress, etc.; especially is anger (when thus extreme) called passion. The mind, in such cases, is considered as having lost its self-control, and become the passive instrument of the feeling in question.
