I can sense "Lucy Live" (AKA "The Doctor Is In") coming together because, by her own admission, she is not a prolific writer and we have not been hearing a lot of new work at the shows lately. Thus, in order to capitalize on her SECOND top honor in a row at the AFIM Awards she would most easily put out a live album. Dar did it after her and her touring band found their groove on the Green World tour. Lucy has put together a CD-capable group of musicians that some of us were privileged to witness in February. I feel that their recording of those shows may be a first production step to see which ones sounded good captured on tape. Boy, that "Hot Burrito #1" on piano at the Emerlin was stunning! Definately, if Lucy ever does a live album she should do at least one piano song on it because that is a side of her that few of her fans ever see and it is most endearing. I am not so fond of live albums myself--they sometimes seem like an easy way out of a situation. But one can't blame Lucy for having a lot on her mind since her last release on September 11th. Subject: [lucy-list] The Next Album... >>>Sharon posted about the New Bedford Festival in Mass. I tried to decide on one song for each category. Picking one song was extremely difficult!! What would you choose?<<< >>>Not a dry eye in the house: "Land of the Living"<<< The natural choice for the times. The newest song. Perfect timing. BUT IF SHE HADN'T YET WRITTEN LOL, I would recommend "Still Life" about the fatherless boy looking up at the statue. >>>I love the ground whereon he goes: "Ten Year Night"<<< Another good selection would be "Don't Mind Me" which actually has the word "ground" in it!! >>>I'll guard you with my right hand: "Promise Me"<<< Interesting, because I read "guarding with right hand" to mean "I'm willing to get into a grrrl fight over you" and this would suggest one of her angry 'other woman' songs. But a particular one has not popped into my head yet. This is all just speculation, of course. Anyone who has been to these folk festival workshops knows that a huge fraction of the performers simply disregard the theme entirely and play the most promising material from their current CD in order to get the positive exposure with new fans. For those of us in the audience who know the performer's entire body of work and know the perfect song got overlooked or skipped-over, this can be frustrating. But I can understand their wanting to put their best foot forward when, for some new fans, it could be their first and only impression. ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V4 #91 ****************************** This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
