New mantra for prosperity! Kinda like a prom dress, the "Rock On Doc!" T-shirt I made for my trip to the Emelin for two therapy sessions with Dr. Kaplansky was destined to be a "one trick pony". I mean, what do you do with it after Lucy's band shows? So I wore it today under my longsleeve dress shirt cause I thought I would be working out back in the machine shop later. (If you've never driven a forklift before, jump at the chance!) This morning I was processing the e-mail requests for Lucy tapes and printed one out. I walked over to the printer to get it and found before me the printout for an internet order. A bunch of old stuff (like old Clapton) at deep discounts and "Lucy Kaplansky - Ten Year Night" at essentially the full price of $13.99. Now, I don't know who in my office caught the bug, but it sure brought a smile to my face! This "Rock on Doc!" shirt must be lucky! I think I will scan a group photo in which it appears to Kristen for her web photo collection. WFUV, at 90.7FM if you live or work in the NYC metropolitan area, or streaming on the Web at www.wfuv.org 'FUV has a great website, which even has audio archives of many of their programs. Unfortunately, this is a fairly new feature, so they don't have the Sunday Morning Breakfast show she did with John Platt back on Sept 9th... but it's a great station to listen to, and you can get it anywhere 'cause it's on the web! I think that this was said on this list before. But the reason Lucy's music (and most of the music from folk and independent performers) isn't played on most radio stations is because record companies pay agents to "promote" their music to commercial radio stations. These agents in turn pay the radio stations to play singles from big name artists whose record companies pay them! If this sounds a little shady... it is.... if the record companies paid the radio stations directly then I think they would punished. So they do this middle man thing (The same thing goes on with grocery stores too by the way!) I'm glad that artists like Lucy don't participate in these really shady dealings just to get on commercial radio.... they have far too much artistic integrity for that! But Lucy is played on plenty of AAA and PRI stations in many places. Chicago has got to have such a station. I am thinking that there might be a university related station through NorthWestern or UIC etc... ANd if you are so inclined you may be able to volunteer as a DJ through one of these independent stations and play whatever you like! Or just contact the DJs who seem to be into tyring new music and call them during a song set (when it starts and they have a few minutes) and suggest they try out listening to Lucy! :) Try FREE Yahoo! Most of the college outlets in Chicago are good, but very weak. I has to be a really nice day to get Northwestern's station. College of Dupage (about 50 miles west of me) is excellent as well, with folk music every night -- it's our local station for "Folk Sampler", "Mountain Stage", etc., but, again, the signal is weak. The best place for folk music in my area is probably the classical music station WFMT, hich runs a very eclectic program called "The MIdnight Special." If it weren't for that program I might never have become familiar with Lucy, Christine Lavin, Dar Willliams, Greg Brown, and company at all. (It does have a webcast as well, but I don't have the address right now.) "Don't Blame Me", by the way, seems to me a mixture of The Beatles (the last chord is the biggest giveaway), Barenaked Ladies (I can just hear them singing the line "...if you turn away/I'll just turn you back around), and, certainly, Lucy and her folk roots. Finally, I saw a post the other day about someone talking to her students. How many of us are teachers, just out of curiosity? I teach high school English and Drama here in the city. rick - --- Simona Loberant wrote: > I think that this was said on this list before.
