Mailing List for Jennifer Kimball Friday, March 1 Jenn solo "New Words Live Unplugged," 7pm New Words Bookstore in Inman Sq., Cambridge 617-876-5310 newwords@world.std.com http://www.newwordsbooks.com Thursday, March 7 MAYBE BABY Kendall Cafe, 9pm Kendall Sq. Cambridge 617-661-0993 w/Amelia White and Dayna Kurtz Hello everyone! What a strange winter -- balmy with little frigid interludes. March and April mud on it's merry way -- even my journey through what I thought would be the snowy southern midwest states of Kansas and Nebraska earlier this month, although peppered with snow, was mostly filled with tepid days of sunshine and brown grasses. Truth be told, though, the lack of 'real' winter sure made for easy driving. And this was much appreciated by Jenn and Lucy and the rented Camry. Woohoo! I got to travel with and open for one of my most favorite singers in the world and a dear friend, Lucy Kaplansky. Wow, we had a blast singing and traveling together -- making up harmonies on the fly. We met the most gracious folks. (Everyone was SOoooo NICE). I learned that Kansas entered the Union as free state (not a slave state) due to a major influx of puritans and other New Englanders to Lawrence, KS. They travelled South to sway the vote and ended up settling down. All very interesting.! I played my first Knights of Pythius Hall, discovered 'the little apple' -- that would be Manhattan, KS -- cavorted with an audience about a mullet song (don't ask how I will write that one) in my latest lost train of thought ramble in "Take One Step." Good times. I really enjoyed playing solo - tried out some new songs and will try out some more this Friday at New Words! The last two MAYBE BABY shows (at Club Passim and the Lizard Lounge) were incredibly fun. Sorry to those of you who couldn't get into the Lizard -- come down to the Kendall next week! And we're going to harness some of this energy and put it into our upcoming recording dates. Hope to have a record done this Spring. And we got nominated (along with many of our friends) for Best Roots Rock Act in the Boston Music Awards -- ooops, that would be the Kahlua Boston Music Awards -- formerly known as the Pepsi Boston Music Awards. Maybe if we're lucky they'll change the name of the Orpheum Theater where these dreadfully long and silly awards presentations are held to the Starbucks Arena and serve up their corporate sponsors products. Yes! Caffeination! Yes! Depressants! Ok, I'm a little jaded. I know it's all good for the press kit. And I sure don't like to get stuck in any one category of music - like folk. Or folk-pop. Or singer-songwriter. So it's pretty cool that my leap from si! nger-songwriter to roots-rocker has been leaped for me by the Awards folks. If you're so inclined, you can go here and print out a copy of the ballot (also in the Friday Globe) and vote! http://mp3.boston.com/spotlight/articles/20020201_bma_nods1.shtml The Wayfaring Strangers' record Shifting Sands of Time is selling pretty well. Matt and I did an interview for "Here and Now" on WBUR which apparently will air March 5th at approx. 12:45pm..... You can read reviews on the website: http://www.thewayfaringstrangers.com Thanks to all of you who wrote me about my December Performing Songwriter article! It's still light out at 6pm - and the deep blue sequence up there behind our backyard trees and above the neighbors roofs is truly royal. Hope to see you all soon at a gig. I figured that she'd been wearing sunglasses since that commercial for Bayada Nurses (Heroes on the Home Front). Deb ===== You can take the rock band away from the girl and think you've tamed her. But, she'll just pick up an acoustic, give you that innocent little girl grin, quietly laugh and say? "Nevah!" Yahoo!
