Yes, on following radio station & program in Birmingham,AL WRAX "The X" 107.7 FM Reg's Coffeehouse Sunday 10am-1pm CT Rest of the week they play alternative rock (that's why I listen to fuv.org) Reg is a non professional discjockey and only does this one show (live) each week. He also does 'Reg's Coffeehouse Series' concerts and promoted Lucy's concert here in Feb '01. So if you are traveling I-65 or I-20/59 within say 50 miles of Birmingham midday on a Sunday, check it out. Unfortunately RAX is not a very strong station (must be south of the mountain between Bham & Huntsville to get it) New project for Lucylist: A list of radio stations (one for North Amer, one for Europe, etc?) that play our? kind of music, hopefully including Lucy. List could include stations that stream on the net. EFO (Eddie from Ohio) & Carrie Newcomer have put some lists on their websites but I'm not sure about them. Tuned in a listed station in either Louisville,KY or Cincinnatti and got hard rock! Let's see how many Yes responses there are to Matt's question Cheers. Its not college affiliated, and completely independent. WYEP plays Folk, Bluegrass, Indie Pop/Rock, Jazz, Instrumental, Blues, World Music, Celtic, and some great older pop/rock music as well as music by groups that have made commercial success but have more than just one song out there! Plus WYEP is in the community here sponsoring musical and arts events. They can be listened to at www.wyep.org and I would suggest listening to Ken Batista on American Sampler which is Sunday early mornings. Ken is one of the first DJs to ever have played artists like Dave Carter and Tracy Grammar. Since WYEP depends on contributions to keep on going you might want to become a member! Several names in modern folk music today are members of WYEP. Among them are Dar Williams who was (according to the story) driving near Pittsburgh and picked up the station. After listening she called in and became a member. 1 WYEP has released their third Live and Direct Album (which is one of the gifts for becoming a member) which features in studio live performances by artists who have been interviewed in the studio and played a tune or two! ~simona Simona L. I know some people here and there who have formed relationships with their local DJs after calling regularly. Lots of these DJs are either volunteers or do it on the side of their "real" job or they just love music so much that they work at the radio station for peanuts! I say, go ahead, make request or just call and chat (and if you donate money you are really going to be loved)... after all these folks don't do it for the money! That station, WWHP, "The Whip", is in little ol' Farmer City, Illinois (a couple miles from a buffalo ranch). 'The Whip' doesn't play Lucy regularly, however they do play whatever they damn-well-please (a real rarity, these days), mostly in the "real country", alt-country, 'Americana', Southern Rock, Celtic, Memphis/MuscleShoals R&B, and the like. Kate Campbell, The Nields, Delbert McClinton, Susan McKeown, Slaid Cleaves, Robbie Fulks, Saffire, The Continental Drifters, Corey Harris, Carrie Newcomer, to name but a few in a long list of folks who have stopped in to play live at the station. When "Flesh and Bone" was Lucy's current disc, 'The Whip' LOVED Lucy's version of "Return of the Grievous Angel", and they played it frequently! These rare, struggling commercial stations have an even harder time of things than the NPR stations. They are not allowed to beg for listener's money (ala NPR stations), and they have a hard time selling themselves to advertisers (low kilowattage / relatively small listener base). Little stations like this are doing it for two reasons: they love doing it, and they love music. They hope to pay the bills, while they're at it, but that's secondary. Whenever you feel like a change of pace in your listening, bookmark http://wwhp.com/ , and give 'em a listen. ~Richard Hill - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Robertson" To: Sent: Monday, January 28, 2002 2:34 PM Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Lucy on commercial radio > on 1/28/02 10:26 AM, Larry Kunz at lkunz@bellsouth.net wrote: > > > New project for Lucylist: > > > > A list of radio stations (one for North Amer, one for Europe, etc?) > > that play our? kind of music, hopefully including Lucy. > > List could include stations that stream on the net. > > I can get that list started.
