A few years ago, Ford included a plastic key blank along with the car book. In my case is was a '93 Tbird in our stable that I took to Ohio in Oct. Don't know if Ford still does it. Looks just like a credit card except that the center bends out at 90 degrees for use. Kmart wouldn't cut the key because they said their machine tears up the plastic. Suggested I have it done at the dealer. Dealer parts mgr said they have had following usual problem--- "Usually at night, keys locked inside, raining or snowing or below freezing, and when you use the plastic key it breaks off in the lock." Most keys somewhere have a point where the width is very narrow. Since I was there, I had him cut the key which he did at no cost. It was a nice day so I tested the key in the passenger door, turning it slowly. Worked fine. (didn't want a broken key in the driver's door) So----- 1) Plastic key is a good idea. Credit card fits nicely in your wallet. 2) AAA key may be made from improved plastic. 3) Turn key SLOWLY in passenger door lock (if it breaks in the drivers door, you are greatly inconvenienced till fixed) 4) I always take 2 keys when going out of town---passenger has the spare I've locked the keys in the car a couple times in the last 5 or so years, both times when doing something in the car before getting out---- like leaving the keys in the glove compartment lock. Luckly I was close enough to home to borrow a car or get someone to bring me the spare keys from home. 5) I really need to put a spare key in a magnetic box hidden under the car. ______________________________________ Know this is Lucylist, but if you haven't heard of Shannon McNally, check her out.
