The first time I heard it was in concert and Lucy's mother was in the audience. It was all I could do not to sob out loud. I have my own personal story that sort of parallels the song, so for me it strikes a chord. I was just wondering if it affects anyone else like this. Yes Gina, I can relate to this song on a very personal level as well. I had a lot of conflicts with my dad growing up and as a young man. As I grew older some of these conflicts started to work themselves out and the more I learned about my dad's personal history, the more I was able to understand him and have empathy for him. Ten Year Night was released the year after he died and that song just made me sob the first time I heard it. This is a very personal thing for me to disclose on a mailing list, I can't even imagine what it's like to write and perform such a personal song. I would guess that the overall effect must be very positive and healing, but it must be painful to perform sometimes. Lucy's folks are always in the audience (and in dad's case, on stage!) when I see her here in Sebastopol and she always plays this song, acknowledging that her mom is there. I have to agree with Gina and Peter in reference to Lucy's emotional songs. It was definitely the reason why I was drawn to her music(and of course...her beautiful voice). I always seem to relate to all of her songs personally. Her new song, "Land of the Living" is a perfect example. The song is on my mind constantly. I love it!!!
