They performed and also took guestions from the audience. Someone asked Lucinda if she considers her songs "country". Her response, "I write and sing country songs...they just don't play them on country radio". Julie Miller as quoted in the NY Times, "We play country music...what you hear on country radio is what I consider alternative country". John Prine, Emmylou, Steve Earle (deadringer for Jim Royle for British fans benefit) Elvis, and Nanci Griffith. I did'nt know how they would present the show but they all just sat in a row along the stage and took it in turns to sing their own songs with the odd bit of backing by the others. The highlights for me were many John Prine's new song about a guy who mentally transports himself to another place whenever his wife is putting him down etc was masterful songwriting as only JP can do. Steve Earle singing Devils right Hand and together with Emmylou singing Goodbye. Elvis singing Shipbuilding. Emmylou singing Red Dirt Girl. I'm not a great lover of Nanci G but she was actually very good too. I would still have love to have seen the show Sharon reviewed a few weeks back but this was still pretty special and for a very good cause. I have to admit my ignorance regarding the number of landmines in existence and the havoc they cause. I travelled over to Glasgow from Edinburgh on my own but I always meet the same people who like the same music as I do. Nice to accidentally meet my brother who I didn't know was going and the ever present Walter. Thanks for saying hello. Did'nt see Jenny (Did you go?) Heading back to Glasgow on Monday for Justin, Stacey and Steve Earle. Anyone else going?
