I can't wait to hear this song! It sounds like a beauty. Hey...that was me in the red sweater(just kidding)! That's one strange lady. Hope everyone makes it home safe. Thanks for the update Deb! Donna ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Jan 2002 17:26:11 -0500 (EST) From: "Elizabeth (Libby) Wiebel" Subject: [lucy-list] adventures of a weary traveler So it all started on Friday afternoon... I thought to myself.. hmmmm... I finish up this contract for work today... and I have to start in heavy duty on the next stage of my thesis on Monday... I've had nearly no break since FRFF... I need a road trip! And thus, it began... I left DC for Rochester, NY on Saturday morning. It was great. Sunny driving... lots of CDs... a diet coke here... a stop at a rest stop there... And I arrived in Rochester around 5:30... just in time. :) Kristen and Simona were waiting for me, and as soon as I changed out of my "travelling all day" gear, we were off. Yes, Simona's car really did have wet seats. Very wet seats. Not to self... remember to bring plastic bags to sit on when riding in Simona's car... :) In actuality, we were happy the seats were wet... as opposed to the alternative... the car had been shampood because the night before some hoodlums (I love it when I get to use that word!) broke the back window and got glass all over the place! So... thank you, Simona, for the wet butt... better than sitting on glass (would that be a glassy @$$??).... :) Pizza was good... and then we arrived at the venue... a UU church that had GREAT acoustics, though was a little bit chilly. :) I will try not to repeat too many details... but yes, the woman in the red shirt was a trip... when Rick said... "I'm her husband"... she said... "Oh yeah? Can you prove it?" Setlist: Opener -- Tom Green (no, not _that_ Tom Green... ) The Angels Rejoiced (I had been DYING to hear that one again) Written on the BAck of his Hand One Good Reason Don't Mind Me Broken Things (yay! I heard it 2 times in 1 week from 2 different artists!!!) 10 Year Night Guilty as Sin Peace Love & Understanding Loch Lomand (sp? she told us that this was what she brought home from across the pond... this song.... and the tip of never trying to get irish whiskey onstage in scotland... they will give you scotch... ) Land of the Living (simply amazing... I heard the "first cut" of this one in Denver... and it has soooo grown... a wonderful song...) Dad's Alphabet Song Pi That Kind of Guy (I think that might be the title... this is the one she did on piano... a BEAUTIFUL Steinway... they ahd to restrain me from going up and playing before the show started... *grin*) Scorpion End of the Day Turn the Lights Back On You're Still STanding There Song for Molly By Way of Sorrow (this is one of my ALL TIME favorites and I hope she never stops singing it!!!) Encores: Nowhere 5 in the Morning So yes... it was an INCREDIBLE concert. Everything felt very fresh... and just really "on"... And this is probably a really stupid observation... but... :) The stage was the alter-area at this church... and it was all done in this really nice light brown wood... and that... with her guitar... her brown pants... and one of the black jackets... the color scheme was just soooo nice and pleasing... :) I know... silly me... :) We had a great time hanging out with Rich afterward... and I will be nice and not mention Joan Baez... and her lack of legs... *tee hee* I will post pictures when I get them developed and scanned... I will try to make that soon!! Simona was an excellent hostess... THANK YOU!!! When we finally got back... and to sleep... around 3, I think... this weary traveller was sooooo ready to crash.... Which brings me to part 2, which I will put in another email.... Since the list-gods always tell me I write too much. *grin* Part 2 coming in moments!! - -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Libby Wiebel | ewiebel@cs.wm.edu | http://www.cs.wm.edu/~ewiebel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ there is a hope that's been expressed in you the hope of seven generations maybe more and this is the faith that they invest in you it's that you'll do one better than was done before inside you know, inside you understand inside you know what's yours to finally set right and i suggest, and i suggest to you and i suggest this is the best part of your life ~ susan werner ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Jan 2002 17:35:01 -0500 (EST) From: "Elizabeth (Libby) Wiebel" Subject: [lucy-list] adventures - part II So... we woke up... and there was SNOW!!!! I decided... that with an 11-hour drive ahead of me, I'd best get going right away. So.... I drove... and listened to lots of lucy.... and drove... and drove... and pretty soon... somewhere in the middle of Pennsylvania, I realized that.... ummmm... we were going 25 mph on the freeway, and I could only see 1 car length ahead of me for the snow that was flying all around. We had made one lane of traffic, since the roads were so bad that you couldn't see the lines... and well... I thought... if Simona was gonna tattle to Lucy on Kristen if Kristen were to have driven back to CT the same night of the show, what would they ALL do to me if I decided to keep driving?! Soooo.... there is this little place called Pine Grove, PA... where there were 4 hotels, a truck stop, an Arbys, and a McDonalds. I checked into one of the hotels and was in for the night. Thanks, Deb, for reporting my safe arrival... I had promised a few who knew I was travelling that they'd know I made it home safely when I posted to the list!! Anyway... it was a good thing I stayed. This morning, I woke up to 8 inches of snow covering my car! I shovelled out... and was on my way. It was a little slow going, but 6 hours later... I finally made it home to VA. I brought in my luggage, ate some crackers, taught 2 piano lessons, and whew... am now here... typing this all!! I've got stacks of mail to open and tons of laundry to do... BUT.... WOW.... the road trip was so very worth it... adventures and all. *grin* Thanks soooooo much to everyone for making it a great time... :) Yes, Kristen, I am a nutty psycho... And yes, Simona, I am glutton for punishment, teasing your cat like that... And yes, everyone.... Joan Baez does, indeed have legs. Now... I'm wondering... cheese... Rick says Lucy likes cheese.... And we know they both like brownies... You can get cheese danishes... and cheese coffee cake.... I wonder if I can dig up a recipe for cheese brownies??? *grin* I'll have to give that one a shake... and maybe I'll bring some for my next road trip!! Take care, all!!
