Libby, Simona and I met up there and went out to dinner first (Libby and me obsessive??? NAHHHH!!!! There were definitely some interesting Lucy filled conversations going on), then headed over to the venue. You know it's a bad thing when you get there before the performer! We pulled into the parking lot (with wet asses from Simona's wet seats....i SWEAR we did not pee our pants!) and Lucy and Rick got there about 15 minutes later. The looks on their faces were priceless when they saw us. Libby being from VA and me being from KS, I suppose showing up in upstate NY is a little odd! :) Lucy ran inside to do sound check and Rick hung outside with us. Highlights of that conversation: - -the crazy woman in the red sweater who asked us if we had ever heard of Lucy Kaplansky before, and that Art Garfunkle was playing down the road, how Lucy was really pretty and wondering if she should hang the poster up because it may get stolen, and how Lucy was in the back making love to some guy or something...very odd - -the woman asking if we were smoking and Rick responding with...we don't smoke cigarettes, crack maybe...but Lucy has my crack pipe right now :) hehehe - -Ricks "Secrets of the folk world" seminar - -Lucy coming out to get the suitcase that Rick forgot to bring in - -Lucy coming out a second time to see what was going on and to make me cry :) - -Rick finally going inside and the crazy lady telling him he couldn't go in because they were doing sound check. Rick telling her that he was her husband and as soon as he entered the door her turning to us and going "who is he?? is he really her husband? I dont know about this"...and then us assuring her that he was We headed inside and got our tickets, and then delivered the brownies and card we had for Lucy back to the green room A little later they opened the doors. Our smiles were probably huge when we saw that he had reserved front row center seats for us. Thanks again Rick for the awesome seats!!!! The opening act was ok...i was too busy bouncing up and down waiting for Lucy to pay much attention...Libby has his name...Tom something or other Then ...LUCY!! I may be biased...but that was the BEST I have ever seen her. She sounded perfect...every note, every little thing was absolute perfection! I don't remember the exact setlist because Libby was writing it down but the highlights for me were... - -An AWESOME version of (What's so funny bout) Peace, Love and Understanding...wow SO good - -The alphabet song!!! The only one of her Dad's songs that I hadn't heard yet so i was VERY excited! - -Turn the Lights Back On...Lucy forgetting the words and I yelled Dry your new age tears...to her...the woman next to me asking me how I knew that...uhh...hello!! - -Broken Things...which just sounded even better then ever tonight...and got me teared up - -The new song...Land of the Living....wow...tears all over the place...so incredibly beautiful...the lyrics are up on the website...very very very moving...according to Rick it's "almost finished" ..it sounds done to me! - -A beautiful song at the piano that we forgot to ask what it was - -Lucy dedicating Nowhere to me and me crying through the whole thing - -Libby's request for Five in the Morning which kept me crying The audience loved her (who doesn't?!) and believe me when i say it was beyond sold out. That place was packed!! People were walking around holding brand new ESD cds everywhere I looked! After the show we hung out front waiting for it to calm down and Rick came out and talked with us for a while....more oh so amusing stories... - -Simona believing him when he said that Joan Baez has no legs and that's why she has sits in a chair when she performs...needless to say that Libby and I were hysterical - -More "Secrets of the Folk World" ...he DOES know all :) - -The list of Lucy's favorite foods---screw the brownies...bring on the creamed spinach and cheese! After everyone had cleared out, Rick brought us back to see Lucy - -we chatted, took pictures, she signed stuff, made sure that we were NOT driving anywhere that night, verified that we were psychotic for driving as far as we did- We said goodbye and headed to a local cafe for coffee and more Lucy stories...i SWEAR we are NOT obsessive...well not TOO much :) Got home somewhere between 1 and 2 and I proceeded to spend the next 45 minutes transcribing the lyrics to Land of the Living...I think i got it all...we couldn't figure out one word (after we each listened to the line 30 times or so :)). After a discussion about Lucy's dishes (better if you just don't ask about that one!) and my new kitten (which isn't exactly mine yet) I think i crawled into my (foam thingie??) and passed out after 3:00 Sigh....i'm home now...after an icky snowy 5 1/2 hour drive (which was Lucy-filled of course!). Hope everyone else got back ok and I'm sure Libby will post a novel when she gets a chance :) I'll have pictures up in just a little bit from last night Still floating in a Lucy-bliss Kristen www.angelfire.com/folk/lucykaplansky .Get more from the Web. Yes, I am the most gullible person on earth, I know it. Everyone I know knows it.... And now the lucy list knows it! So I don't think I can listen to Joan Baez anymore without getting embarresed. ANyone interested in some slightly used Joan CDs? Thank you very very much Rick for saving us some seats front and center and took us to the green room afterwards. You are a total mench Rick! We really appreciated it. It was like we got the royal treatment while all the other folk plebians had to play by the rules! :But I guess when a girl from Kansas, one from Virginia and one from Pittsburgh are at a concert in Upstate NY it is worthy of some attention! :) The odd woman in the red sweater is (i think) a former neighbor of mine. This woman was a blast. At first we thought she couldn't be for real when she asked us had we heard of Lucy (hello! what the heck else would we be doing standing outside of a church on a cold saturday night if not to go to the concert inside? Rochester is dull, but not so dull that people just loiter in front of churches for fun). And when she asked Rick had he heard Lucy sing I thought she HAD TO BE KIDDING>.... and then she said something about Lucy being in the greenroom with her lover and we all about just died. Rick kept a totally straight face. We tried hard not to laugh, and were able to keep it in till she went back inside. Kristen and Libby were lovely houseguests. They complained about the fact that my car was damp, but that's because I had it shampooed that morning (note to self, only get car shampooed when weather permits the windows being opened) My cat snowy loved all the attention lavished on him, he has to settle for only me now and is looking forward to guests gracing us in Pittsburgh soon. later, simona Simona L. She'll fill everyone in on her experience once she is back safe and sound. Deb ===== You can take the rock band away from the girl and think you've tamed her. But, she'll just pick up an acoustic, give you that innocent little girl grin, quietly laugh and say? "Nevah!" Send FREE video emails in Yahoo!
