Walter ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Dec 2001 14:33:43 -0000 From: "donald.anderson" Subject: [lucy-list] Lucy In Glasgow 6th Dec 2001 My fellow listers have already well covered the Ferry show , so I'll keep it brief (well sort of) We were a bit worried about ticket sales for this show but it turned out that there were two football (That's soccer for our USA friends) matches on that night one in Glasgow , with around 65,000 attending the Celtic match and the other main Glasgow team Rangers were also involved in a match broadcast on telly. Now it's fair to say that the Glaswegians take their football seriously so that's why there were less people around than at previous Lucy Glasgow shows Those that were here though were dedicated fans and we certainly appreciated Lucy coming out before the show to chat with us all. I don't think I can add too much to what's been said already apart from the fact that Lucy announced that she thought this was a very cool venue and that she had never performed on a boat before. So we had an attempt at a Lyle Lovett song "If I Had A Boat" , with someone in the audience knowing more of the words than Lucy and boy could this girl sing - If you're on the list , please let us know who you are ! She continued the "boat" theme with "Evangeline" which she only knew part of , but it was great Having been at the previous nights show Lucy knew that there were a few of us coming to the Glasgow show as well and she promised to sing a few different songs to those she performed in Glenfarg and boy did she deliver ! - we got 7 songs that she hadn't sang the night before , including "guaranteed" requests for those who attended both gigs , so I got "The Tide" and Ian , or was it Iain ? got "My Name Joe" Somebody asked for "Somewhere Out There" and then came a flood of requests , Lucy elected to play "Somewhere Out There" but admitted she hadn't sang it for over a year and couldn't remember all the words - no matter it was great anyway Two brilliant nights - come back soon ! & special thanks to Lucy for bringing Alice Peacock along , who was also rather wonderful Set List (in order) : She Thinks I Still Care Written On The Back Of His Hand One Good Reason Don't Mind Me Ten Year Night Scorpion Guilty As Sin Whats So Funny About Peace , Love etc. Evangeline The Bonnie Banks O' Loch Lomond More Than This The Tide Mr Kaplansky's Alternative Alphabet Song Crazy Dreams End Of The Day Turn The Lights Back On Song For Molly By Way Of Sorrow +++++++++++++++ White Christmas My Name Joe Guinevere +++++++++++++++ Somewhere Out There All the best Donald ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 Dec 2001 11:02:04 EST From: Pfleary@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] with all due respect to phil lesh After seeing the Grateful Dead mentioned as a group whose music Lucy should cover, I was reminded of a cover that Dan Nooter (a famous dar-lister for those who don't know him!) once suggested to me. She was the hit of the night steve earle did .. hometown blues. xmas time in washington and with emmylou a duet on did we ever say goodbye- Steve earle gave a solid performances but after seeing him 5 times this summer with chapin. He needs a story change steve played mandolin as well as gibson guitar bruce cockburn.. the beat.. the song about motorbiking in katmandu for beer in the tibet zone.. and mines of mosambique- bruce plays along with almost everyone and when he is not. He is soooo intense and you can see the love of music on his face chapin sang..king of love.. then a song she credited to her friend singer/ songwriter who she thinks writes the finest songs- John Gorka - she sang flying red horse and then ended late for your life (chapin fans know How rare this is and all over the country she had been singing her xmas song.) it wasnt appropriate in NY this year sheryl crow and emmylou.. dueted on a gram parsons song- the one shey do on the Grievous angel tribute cd - on her second round she asked for help on Here comes the sun - all members had word sheets and emmylou most obviously didnt know the song -she sang along and took lead -and steve earle and she did a new song .. called amanda sheryl has a new cd pending where steve and she wrote for it. Her accordian was a great addition to this group. their harmonies are tight and she didnt jump though i was hoping she would. her voice fit perfectly with emmy and chapin and patty emmy lou did the pearl and red dirt girl patty griffin and chapin were harmony whores all night and with their voices and sheryls and emmylous.. it was angelic.. sheryl had her accordian too that was an added treat and then to add Nanci griffith for the end of the show, the place broke out and most of us have NG tickets for monday ( her sept 14th replacement show) so nanci was a cool addition to the stage for those of you on deck for this show, it will be more than you can dream for and a darn good cause sharon I danced a lot of nights until the grass was wet It wasn't over yet Round 'bout 3AM you made a friend And I followed a lot of idle crazy thoughts because It's where the meaning was Though I tried to find it every other way ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 Dec 2001 11:33:06 -0500 From: Donna Myers Subject: [lucy-list] Re: covers and BBC Interview Thanks for the BBC Interview! Although she'll be in Northern Virginia at the end of April, I think this is an opportunity I can't pass up. I know some of you went to the show in September. Can you tell me anything about the venue? Is it reserved seating? Did anyone stay overnight? Any recommendations on hotels? The Henry Clay Inn appears to be very close. Anyone try it? I appreciate any information or suggestions.
